The first candidate for New York town hall, Zohran Mamdani, a self -proclaimed socialist, again raises eyebrows for suggesting that prisons are not important in a recently redone video.
Mamdani, an assembly of New York State and the Democratic candidate for the mayor, made these comments in an interview in 2020 while he presented himself at the State Office.
When asked if he thought the prisons were obsolete, Mamdani replied: “I think frankly – I mean – what are they for? I think we have to ask ourselves.”

The candidate for the Democratic mayor added: “I think that many people who defend the prison state, they defend the idea and the way he makes them feel. They do not defend the reality and the practices that are part of it.
“Because if you decompose it and ask people how many people get better out of the penitentiary system that they have entered the penitentiary system, how many evil are really possible in relation to creation, I think that when you ask these kinds of questions, people do not always have clear answers.”
Mamdani added that, when you discuss the penitentiary system, “what they always want to rotate is:” What are you going to do with murderers? What are you going to do with rapists? “”

“Sometimes you have to ask them,” What are you doing about them right now? “” He added. “We need a justice system that will repair the damage that has been caused and seriously approach it, because at the moment we don’t have it, and that makes everyone more dangerous.”
Mamdani also said that “the power of the executive is almost unlimited here in New York State” and criticized the New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, for refusing to “let people out and let people go home”.
Mamdani, who has promised to revise New York and launch new massive government programs, was approved by progressive politicians such as representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dn.y., and Senator Bernie Sanders, I-VT.
New York leaders would have hesitated to approve Zohran Mamdani for the mayor

As a Democratic candidate for the highly blue city of New York, Mamdani is probably the first advantage to dislodge the current mayor of New York, Eric Adams, who presents himself to a re -election as an independent. Mamdani is also confronted with Cuomo, who presents himself as an independent, and the activist Curtis Sliwa, who is the candidate of the Republican Party.

Mamdani is considered by many to be a controversial candidate, partly because of his socialist policy proposals and his strong criticisms of the State of Israel. He refused to say if Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish state and initially refused to condemn the sentence “globalize the intifada”. However, he recently began to distance himself from the sentence.
Fox News Digital contacted the Mamdani campaign but did not receive an answer.
