Brooklyn, Ny – Zohran Mamdani told journalists on Sunday that the deadly shooting in New York a few hours earlier was the last example of the “scourge of armed violence” in the most populous city in the country.
The commissioner of the New York police department, Jessica Tisch, confirmed that there were 12 victims, including three deaths, in a suspected gang shooting on the Taste of the City Lounge in the Crown Heights section of the district.
During a canvas launch event in the Prospect Park district, Mamdani told journalists that the incident was “yet another example of the scourge of armed violence which had seized a large part of our city”.
The candidate for the New York Democrat Town Hall noted that only three weeks ago, the city experienced its deadliest mass shooting in 25 years when an armed man killed four people in the center of Manhattan before committing suicide.

Mayor’s hope said on Sunday that he offered 275% investment in the Ministry of Community Security.
The shooting of Manhattan last month propelled the previous comments of Mamdani, including those who call to finance the NYPD, to the central scene of the race in Gracie Mansion.

“My statements in 2020 were those made in the middle of a frustration that many New Yorkers were holding during the murder of George Floyd,” replied Mamdani last month when a journalist asked if he regretted one of his previous comments.
Mamdani has since backed up his position on police financing, but his competitors, including former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, have seized such comments, telling CNN that Mamdani does not understand “Importance of the NYPD”.
While the details emerged on the fatal shooting on Sunday in Brooklyn, outgoing mayor on Sunday Eric AdamsWho presents himself as independent, said that his administration had reduced crime by removing illegal firearms from the street.
“What I can tell you, we will continue our aggressive pursuit to withdraw these illegal weapons from our streets. Each victim of violence, in particular armed violence, is too great,” he said.

“Cuomo’s pro-criminal laws have created this mess, and Mamdani’s radical agenda would only make matters worse. The status quo failed. I am the only candidate with the courage to restore public order in New York”, Sliwa said in a press release on x.
