In a scene that could have come from “Winnie the Pooh”, two young bears who escaped their enclosure in a zoo in England were finally discovered in a food storage area that reprimanded honey and other snacks.
Mish and Lucy, two 5-year-old European brown bears, sneaked out of their speaker at the Wildlife Park Wildwood Devon in the southwest of England on Monday afternoon and headed directly to a food storage space reserved for staff, according to Wildwood Devon Facebook items.
There, the duo was enjoyed a “selection of snacks – including a week of honey”, as indicated in one of the publications on social networks.

The two bears were not a threat to the public during their escape, but all visitors to the park were transferred to a secure building as a security precaution. Mish and Lucy were then monitored through surveillance images and on the ground until they return to their enclosure, Wildwood Devon wrote.

Wildwood Devon said the incident, which had caused a police response, was the result of an “operational error”. The wildlife park is now carrying out a full internal investigation to determine how the bears escaped to prevent a similar incident from reproducing.

“Although the structural integrity of the bear’s speaker remains without compromise, we take all operational laps very seriously,” wrote Wildwood Devon. “We are fully attached to the highest standards for animal care, safety and transparency for visitors.”

In 2023, an Andean bear escaped from his enclosure at the St. Louis zoo twice in a month. In one of its escapes, the bear managed to burst by tearing clips holding a stainless steel mesh in the frame of the speaker door.
