Former President Joe Biden suspended his re -election offer a year ago on Monday, in an unprecedented decision that ended his career over 50 years in politics and rocked the Democratic Party, with those on the left still in shock from the impact.

On July 21, 2024, a few days after President Donald Trump accepted the appointment of the GOP, Biden put an end to his re -election campaign in the middle of the growing pressure of his own party.

Doubts on the viability of Biden at the top of the Democratic Party ticket in 2024 began to infiltrate in the dominant current after its interrupted delivery and clumsy responses were placed entirely for a national audience during the presidential debate in June 2024 with Trump in Atlanta.

Performance aroused a general panic among the Democrats and almost immediately encouraged the calls of political experts, editorial writers and certain donors of the party for Biden to withdraw as a norm of the party in 2024.

While Biden has struggled to resume its stockings, an increasing number of Democrats in the House publicly urged the president to end his re -election offer.

Biden nestled against the worried democrats, including the governors and leaders of the Congress, following the debacle of the debate and was also engaged in “phones work”, according to campaign officials.

Biden began the week of withdrawal in a provocative posture, telling the Democrats of Congress that he was determined to campaign against and beat Trump. Biden also urged legislators to stop focusing on the debate and ending calls for his withdrawal – the pleadings which, according to him, only helped Trump.

Biden followed this with a call with members of the Congressional Black Caucus and also obtained the support of members of the Spanish Caucus of Congress.

However, concerns are mounted and intensified. Democratic legislators met in camera in the hope of reaching a consensus and supporting the president, but some hesitated.

Biden’s campaign met the Senate Democrats on Capitol Hill and, for days, the White House, the Biden campaign and the president himself said that Biden did not intend to abandon the race.

The press secretary of the room in White, Karine, Jean-Pierre, had told journalists that the president was “absolutely not” planned to abandon.

In addition, Quentin Fulks, deputy campaign director of Biden, stressed that “the president is in this race to win him. He is the Democratic candidate”.

The day after the presidential debate, Biden recognized during a rally in Raleigh, in North Carolina, “I know that I am not a young man, to declare the evidence.”

After suspending his campaign, Biden quickly approved Vice-President Kamala Harris to take his place at the top of the ticket. She received the presidential candidate of the Party of the weeks later at the National Democratic Convention in Chicago.

Months later, Trump defeated Harris in an astonishing landslide victory, sweeping all swing states and offering him a victory not only in electoral college, but also in the popular vote.

The Democratic Party is still struggling with the withdrawal of Biden a year later, in search of a new Normal holder, while the former president and his team are under investigation by the executive and legislative branches.
