The Republican representative Wesley Hunt of Texas announced on Monday that he presented himself in the Senate, jumping in an already bitter battle between the outgoing senator John Cornyn and the Attorney General of the Challenger of Texas Ken Paxton.

“The race for the American Senate in Texas must be more than a small quarrel between two men who have spent months negotiating beards,” Hunt said in a statement when he launched his campaign. “With my candidacy, this race will finally concern what is most important – Texas.”

The entry of Hunt into the race reveals the warmth of an already fuel battle between Cornyn, which appeared in 2026 for a fifth term of six years representing the Texas of the Red State in the Senate, and Paxton, Maga Firebrand which is an ally of President Donald Trump.

Hunt, a West Point graduate who stole Apache helicopters during his army service and an upward magazine who is in his second mandate representing a safe republican district in the Houston region, stressed in his declaration: “My file speaks more than the words. I am the most regularly conservative legislator representing Texas at the Congress.”

Does Cornyn fill the gap with Paxton in the most fuel element in the Senate in 2026 of the GOP?

Cornyn, who is supported by the head of the majority of the Senate, John Thune and the Senate National Republican Committee, dragged Paxton two -digit at the start of the summer.

Trump’s shadow is largely loomed in the 2025 electoral events

But Cornyn has reduced the voting gap in recent weeks, thanks in part to a huge advertising blitz by allies who have highlighted the many controversies that have beat Paxton in the last decade.

Trump, whose approval would have a major impact in the primary battle of Texas, has remained neutral to date.

Hunt, stressing his support from Trump while the president of the time, then the president, launched his return from the White House in 2024, boasted that “I was the first person in the country to approve President Trump, and I remained firm in my commitment to the people of Texas”.

Hunt had thought about the Senate for months and sources confirmed to Fox News earlier this year that the Congress member had pleaded for Trump’s political team that he was the only person who could gain both a GOP primary and a general election.

And a great aligned PAC spent big dollars this summer to increase the recognition of the name of Hunt through the state of Texas.

Paxton’s advisor Nick Maddux, in a statement to Fox News, said that “the primaries are good for our party and our voters, and Paxton and Hunt both know that the Texans deserve better than the faulty anti-top file of John Cornyn”.

But Cornyn Campaign’s main advisor, Matt Mackowiak, argued in a statement that “the representative Wesley Hunt is a legend in his own mind. No one is happier this morning than the national democrats who watch Wesley pursue his quest quixotic for relevance, cost tens of millions of dollars that will endanger the Trump Trump.”

Hunt’s entry into the nomination race of the GOP could prevent the winner of the primary next March from winning the majority of votes, which would trigger a runoff two and a half months later.

The Democrats hope for a Paxton’s victory in primary school, which, according to them, would make the general elections of next year more competitive.
