Virginia voters choose their Democratic candidate for the Attorney General

Former State of Virginie del. Jay Jones obtained the Democratic appointment to the Prosecutor General of Virginia.
The Associated Press plans that Jones won the Democrat primary and will challenge the outgoing republican prosecutor Jason Miyares in November.
Miyares was elected Attorney General in 2021 alongside the Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin, who is limited to the term this year, and Lieutenant-Governor WinSome Earle-Sears, the Republican candidate to the governor. The three Republicans reversed democratic seats during the state -of -scale elections in 2021, and the Democrats seek to regain control of Virginia later this year.
The name of President Donald Trump did not appear at the top of the ticket during the Virginia primary on Tuesday, but his second term program in the second term took the scene.

Jones applauded how general prosecutors intensified to defend the Americans by continuing the Trump administration to unlock federal funding and reject the implementation of the executive, “but here in Virginia, the extremist prosecutor of Maga, Jason Miyares, first put the policy and refused to join the effort to defend themselves against non -institutional and non -American policies.
Public security, cost reduction thanks to business responsibility, the protection of civil and constitutional rights and the preservation of the right to abortion were among Jones’ additional campaign promises.
Taylor The campaign focused on Public security, protection of abortion rights, cost reduction, prevention of armed violence and the construction of the virginia economy to support the middle class.

Taylor’s first campaign announcement presented images from Trump buying a Tesla at the White House and Elon Musk has a chainsaw during this year’s conservative political action conference (CPAC).
“I run for the Attorney General to take Trump and Musk” ” Taylor said.
Virginia elections will be used by political experts and politicians as a bell tower for competitive mid-term elections expected in 2026. They are an early opportunity to assess how the Americans react to the second term of Trump and see how they could vote next year when a majority at the Congress will be online.
Virginia is one of the two governors in the United States this year, with New Jersey, which held its primary elections last week.

Commonwealth Republicans broke a 12-year-old sequence to lose against Democrats when they swept the elections to the governor, at Lieutenant-Governor and Attorney General in Virginia four years ago.
But the Republicans have not won the Commonwealth in a White House competition since 2004.

Trump lost six points in the presidential election last November, which was an improvement of four points compared to his defeat in 2020.
However, the Republicans are expected to face an upward battle in November. With only one exception since 1977, the party that holds the White House has lost the elections of the governor of Virginia.
