Jones was already under the fire of criticism after Coyner had previously revealed text exchanges in 2022 in which he suggested that he would shoot the president of the Chamber of the time, Todd Gilbert, about Adolf Hitler. He also said that Gilbert and his wife should see their “fascist” children die.

At one point, Jones wrote: “Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert receives two balls in the head. »»

The fraternal order of the Virginia police sent a letter on Monday to Jones on Monday, appealing to him to immediately withdraw from the race for the Attorney General, while also condemning his actions.

“The fraternal police order of Virginia is aware of the recent scandal by SMS involving you, the Democratic candidate at the post of Attorney General. Although this incident could have occurred in 2022, this conduct has no place in our society or our democracy, in particular on the part of an elected official who presents himself to the post of Virginia General Prosecutor,” the FOP wrote. “Men and women of the fraternal order of Virginia unequivocally condemn these violent SMS sent by you against a political opponent and his family.”

The FOP said that it supported everyone’s right to “respectful and peaceful discussions” with politicians, even if “calling for any type of violence is unacceptable”.

“We have seen what this type of rhetoric caused in other regions of the country. The men and women of the police are working tirelessly to fight the violence you want against a compatriot of Virginia and his family,” added the FOP. “Consequently, members of the Fraternal Police Order of Virginia believe that you, Jay Jones, are not able to the post of Attorney General of Virginia. It is time that you held responsible for these actions and that you immediately withdraw from the race for the Attorney General.”

Jones also faces calls from Republicans to abandon the race for the Attorney General.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Coyner said that Jones, a democrat, was not able to occupy this position.

“My position is very clear. It is never acceptable to think that killing people is a justifiable method to achieve political changes. The final point. Whoever advocates killing someone because he does not agree with him is not qualified to serve,” said Coyner.

Jones denied new allegations.

“I did not say that. I never believed and I do not believe that a prejudice can be caused to the police, point. Each day, police are risking their lives to protect our communities, and I am deeply grateful for their service and their sacrifices. As a general prosecutor, I will work hand in hand with the police to support their work,” said Jones to Virginia Scope.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin said Jones should abandon his campaign in the light of these messages, saying that they were “beyond disqualification”.

“This violent and disgusting rhetoric targeting an elected official and his children is beyond disqualification,” wrote Youngkin in a post X on Saturday. “Jay Jones said that ‘Gilbert had received two bullets in the head’ and then hoped that his children would die. Reread these words.”
