Democratic candidate for Virginia attorney general Jay Jones’ campaign continued to receive large donations from Democrats and Democratic-aligned PACs even after it was revealed that he had considered killing a Republican leader and his family — while his reckless driving case remains under further investigation.
The Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP), which painstakingly publishes donor names, amounts, legislator biographies, bills, district maps and more, this week printed data from Jones’ latest campaign finance revelations.
Since the murder text message scandal broke on Oct. 3, Jones has received more than $1 million in donations. Fox News Digital took a look at some of the highest amounts, focusing on donors who have contributed $5,000 or more since then.
DAGA PAC, the political action committee that supports Democratic attorneys general, has poured out nearly 75 percent of that $1 million in three installments over the past two weeks: two donations of $250,000 and another spending of $230,000.

The next largest donor was the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus.
The group, chaired by Del. Luke Torian, D-Montclair, and Del. Joshua Cole, D-Fredericksburg, contributed $50,000 on Oct. 20 and had given another $50,000 a day before the Jones murder text message scandal broke.
The Virginia Eighth District Democratic Committee — a party organization made up of people from Rep. Don Beyer’s very blue Alexandria-Fairfax district, but not related to the congressman himself — gave $30,000 to Jones’ campaign on Oct. 21, according to VPAP.

The largest individual donor at that time was Norfolk attorney and executive Adam Casagrande, vice president of a Virginia Beach diving supplies company that sells equipment and provides logistics to the Pentagon. Casagrande gave Jones $25,000, according to VPAP, and gave large sums to Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., an ex-governor. Terry McAuliffe and several Norfolk Democrats.
Another $25,000 came from an individual named Scott Shenker, who appears in VPAP records as a top donor in Berkeley, Calif., with similar contributions to McAuliffe, Spanberger and former House Democratic leader Eileen Filler-Corn.
The second largest donor was Karen Waldron, identified by VPAP as a Botetourt County real estate developer, who gave $15,000 to Jones on Oct. 17, and also gave to Lily Franklin — a Democrat fighting Del. Chris Obenshain, R-Roanoke, in what will likely be one of the tightest races in the House elections.

Shahir Kassam-Adams of Lovingston made the second-largest contribution since the Jones scandals surfaced, donating $10,000.
One notable donor who gave $5,000 days before the scandals that rocked the news was Jonathan Soros, the younger son of Hungarian-born American billionaire George Soros.
