A judge ordered UTAH Legislative Assembly on Monday to redraw his cards from the Congress in time for the mid-term elections next year, judging the state legislature which illegally burst out its districts in favor of the Republicans.
Judge Dianna Gibson said in a 76 pages order that the Legislative Assembly must adopt a “card of the restorative congress” at the end of September. State legislators have already pointed out that they were planning to appeal, which means that the case probably heads for the Utah Supreme Court and perhaps the United States Supreme Court.
Gibson’s order comes after a fight between two of the largest states in the country, Texas and California, pushing Gerrymandering under national spotlights. Gerrymandering is the practice of changing the limits of a congress district in a state for the benefit of a political party, which, according to criticism, dilutes votes.

The UTAH trial was born out of redistocking the changes that started in 2018. Utah voters adopted proposal 4, also known as the “Better Boundaries” initiative, that year to reform the redistribution process and create an independent commission to supervise it.
But the state’s legislature adopted a bill two years later which exceeded this measure and stripped the commission of its power by reducing it to an advisory body. The legislators then bypassed the Commission entirely by drawing cards from the congress considered to strongly promote the Republicans.
The new card has divided Salt Lake City four ways, which, according to voting rights groups, including the League of Women Voters of Utah and Mormon women for the ethical government, illegally alleged the only urban region of the State in violation of the standards set out by proposal 4.

Senator Mike LeeRutah, warned Monday before Gibson’s decision that “almost everything that is promoted as an” independent commission “is often a strategy to give Democrats an advantage that they cannot gain by fair elections”.
“We, people, must stop this trend. To do this, we must first understand what these independent commissions really represent,” wrote Lee in a long post X. “In a state like Utah, they are essentially a mechanism for the left to grasp the power that they cannot go through the democratic elections.”

The UTAH redistribution dispute comes after the Texas legislature adopted new cards this month which give Republicans an advantage in the next environment. President Donald Trump encouraged this decision and celebrated it as a “big victory”, while state Democrats have temporarily fled the state to protest the new card.
California Governor Gavin NewsomA democrat, replied to what he said was a takeover led by Trump by advancing a precipitated plan to suspend the card by his own state, driven by an independent commission and pass a new one in a special election this year to compensate for the gains of the Republicans in Texas. At a press conference, Newsom said Democrats should “play Hardball” to have a chance against a republican party led by Trump. Trump promised Monday to continue Newsom on the card.
