Trump tables a defamation trial of $ 15 billion against the New York Times

Donald Trump grew up in Queens – a very nice neighborhood, of course, but still an outdoor arrondissement.
On the other side of the East river is the sparkling horizon line of what those who do not live there call “the city”. And in the middle of this island is the New York Times Building.
When the Times found the property developer worthy of profiling, in 1976It was an inflated piece at first glance:
“He is tall, thin and blond, with dazzling white teeth, and he looks so much like Robert Redford. He goes up in the city in a Cadillac in heated silver with his initials, DJT, on the plates. It dates from Linky fashion models, it belongs to the most elegant clubs and, at only 30 years old, estimates that it is worth” more than 200 million dollars “.
Trump announces a trial of $ 15 billion against the New York Times for defamation, defamation

Redford’s reference is now unfortunately dated because of the death of the actor in his sleep (“good way of proceeding, I suppose”, says Trump.) But in the room, the “Talker Fast” admitted that his father, Fred Trump, who built the middle class accommodation at the Queen and Brooklyn, only recently tried to break the Manhattan market because of “psychology”.
(My favorite sentence: “Mr. Trump, who says he is a shy advertising, allowed a journalist to accompany him on what he described as a typical working day.”)
I raise it all, as a Brooklyn guy who lived in the Queens, to underline how the president always wants the approval of the newspaper.

And he obtained it – although the tabloids loved his quarrels even more – until he enters politics.
Now the president has brought a legal action of $ 15 billion against the New York Times.
It is a strange costume, and he has a chance of snowball in hell to succeed.

A Times press release said: “This trial has no merit. There is a lack of legitimate legal complaints and is rather an attempt to suffocate and discourage independent relationships.” What is strange is that there was no triggering history, no alleged specific inaccuracy. This contrasts strongly with the successful combinations of the president against CBS and ABC.
Of course, the filing of a complaint – even forcing the largest companies to spend a fortune in legal costs – is often the point.
In the 1980s, Trump continued the architectural critic of Chicago Tribune, Pulitzer winner, Paul Gapp, for $ 500 million, for criticizing his construction plan of the highest American building – a 150 -story tower – in Manhattan. “One of the most stupid things could inflict in New York or any other city,” Gapp wrote.
Trump said that he had “practically torpedoed” the project, subjecting it to “a public ridicule and a contempt”. A judge then rejected the prosecution as implying a protected opinion.
The new costume appoints journalists such as the chief correspondent for the White House Peter Baker and the investigative journalist Michael Schmidt. He also names Susanne Craig and Ross Buettner, in part for their book “Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump was wasted his father’s fortune and created the illusion of success”.
Craig revealed some of Trump’s income statements, and her team won a pulitzer for reporting on her finances.
In the ABC case, the network was satisfied with $ 16 million for George Stephanopoulos after having declared that Trump had been tried responsible for rape, not “sexual abuse”, in the civil prosecution brought by E. Jean Carroll.
CBS also agreed to pay $ 16 million after the modification of Kamala Harris’s interview on “60 minutes”, to make it more consistent.
He also continued the parent company of the Wall Street Journal for reporting on his birthday message to Jeffrey Epstein – which he continues to deny, although the Predator file message has surfaced with many similarities.

In the trial against the Times, deposited in Florida, the president simply throws his campaign cover. He says on Truth Social that he moves against “one of the most and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country, becoming a virtual” spokesperson “for the Radical Democratic Party of the left. Preferred president (me!), My family, business, America First Movement, Maga and our nation as a whole.
I go out on a member to say that the management of an editorial on the first page is part of the category of freedom of expression, and many articles have sometimes done so.
And remember, as a ultimate public figure, Trump should prove wickedness on the part of the newspaper, or reckless contempt to know if something is true or not.

Since the president’s coverage is extremely negative, let’s say for the sake that the Times leads resistance.
The Trump costume blame “persistent electoral interference from the inherited media”.
But unless a applicant can indicate an inaccuracy verifiable, it is the umbrella protection of the declaration and the opinion of the first amendment.

Yesterday, with Marine One in the background, Jonathan Karl of ABC, whom Trump knows well, asked him questions about the criticism of Pam Bondi surveys on the leftrs: “Many people, many of your allies, say that the speech of hatred is freedom of expression.”
“She would probably go after people like you! Because you treat me so unfairly! It’s hatred! You have a lot of hatred in your heart!”
A moment later, Trump said: “Maybe they will come after ABC. Well, ABC paid me $ 16 million recently for a form of hatred speech, right? Your business paid me $ 16 million for a form of hate speech, so maybe they will have to continue.”

For the president, a trial is exercised as a weapon. This is why he continues the New York Times, the newspaper on the other side of the river, with which he has always had a romantic relationship – and in recent times, mainly hatred.
