President Donald Trump signed his 200th decree on Friday, authorizing the Ministry of Defense to change his name at the Ministry of War.
Speaking from the oval office, Trump said the new name “sends a message of victory, a message of force” to the world.
“It has to do with victory,” added the president. “We should have won all war. We could have won all war. But we really chose to be very politically correct or awake.
“We won the First World War. We won the Second World War. We won everything before that and between the two. And then we decided to wake up, and we changed the name for the Ministry of Defense. So we are going from the Ministry of War.”

Trump said the name is “a much more appropriate name, especially in the light of the world at the moment.”
“We have the strongest soldiers in the world. We have the largest equipment in the world. We have the biggest men. New equipment factories, there is by far nobody to compete,” he said.
Turning to the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, a smiling Trump said: “I would like to ask our war secretary to say a few words.”
Hegseth thanked Trump for signing the order, saying that the name change restored “warrior ethics” to American soldiers.

“After winning the war for independence in 1789, George Washington created the War Department, and Henry Knox was his first secretary to the war. And this country won each major war after that. … One hundred and fifty years later, we changed the name after the Second World War from the Ministry of War to the Ministry of Defense in 1947, and, as you stressed. have not won a major war since, “said Hegseth.
“This name change is not only to rename, it is a question of restoring,” said the secretary. “The words count. He is restoring, as you have done to us, Mr. President, restaurants the warrior ethics, restaurants victory and clarity as a final state, restoring intentionality in the use of force.”
Hegseth has promised the war service “will fight in a decisive way, not endless conflicts. It will be fighting to win, not to lose. We are going to go in offense, not only in defense. Maximum lethality, not lukewarm legality. Violent effect, not politically correct.
“We are going to raise warriors, not just defenders. So this war department, Mr. President, just as America is back.”

It is not clear if the congress, which has the power to establish federal executive services, will have to intervene to issue the final approval in moving. However, Trump expressed his confidence that the name will stick, saying: “We go with it, and we go with it very strongly … but we will put it before the congress.”
