President Donald Trump said on Monday that his administration would send defensive weapons to Ukraine so that the war -torn country will be able to defend itself against Russia’s in progress, an apparent reversal after the Pentagon said last week that he paused such deliveries.

His comments came while Russian attacks against Ukraine killed at least 11 civilians and injured more than 80 others, including seven children, officials announced on Monday.

“We have to do it,” said Trump when he was questioned at the start of a dinner he organized in the White House for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “They must be able to defend themselves. They hit very hard now. We are going to send other weapons – mainly defensive weapons.”

Russia continues to move forward and now currently controls a little less than a fifth of the Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, all of Luhansk, the lion’s share of three other regions and bursts of three additional regions.

Trump’s repeated efforts to negotiate a ceasefire did not succeed, and the president continued to express his frustration with Russian president Vladimir Putin, who continues to degenerate military actions.

“I’m not satisfied with President Putin at all,” said Trump.

The Ministry of Defense later said that it would send additional defensive weapons to Ukraine towards Trump, to ensure that Ukrainians can defend themselves while efforts continue to guarantee lasting peace.

“Our executive for Potus to assess military expeditions around the world remains in force and is an integral part of our first defense priorities in America,” said Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell.

Ukraine asked Washington to sell him more missiles and patriotic systems which he considers a key to defending his cities in the intensification of Russian air strikes.

Last week, the Pentagon frozen certain expeditions of critical weapons in Ukraine, including the Patriot missile interceptors and the 155 mm artillery shells, at a pivotal moment in the Kyiv war with Russia, confirmed Fox News. According to American military officials who followed the expeditions, the weapons were already staged in Poland before the order dropped.

He came then that Russia launched his greatest air attack in the war, nearly 500 drones and 60 missiles.

In response to Trump’s comments, the Kremlin said it would need time to clarify the details of Ukraine weapons aid to Ukraine with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, there were many contradictory statements on American weapons supplies to Ukraine, although it is clear that European deliveries were continuing.

“Obviously, supplies continue, it is clear. Obviously, Europeans are actively involved in the pumping of Ukraine full of weapons,” said Peskov, according to Reuters. “As for what type of supplies and in what Ukraine quantity continues to receive from the United States, it will always take time to clarify this definitively,” he added.

Peskov said Moscow appreciated Trump’s efforts to launch direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and that there was significant potential to restart Russian-American trade and economic relations.

In addition, the Russian Minister of Transport, Roman Starovoit, was found dead in what the authorities said an apparent suicide – a news that broke hours after the Kremlin announced that it had been dismissed by Putin, according to the Associated Press. The Russian media reported that its dismissal could have been linked to an investigation into the diversion of public funds allocated to the construction of fortifications in the Kursk region, where he was governor before being appointed Minister of Transport.

The dismissal of Starovoit followed a weekend of travel chaos – airports anchored hundreds of flights due to the threat of Ukraine drone attacks. Russian officials did not give a reason for his dismissal.
