Trump nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by GOP legislators for Ukrainian-Russia discussions

First on Fox: President Donald Trump’s GOP allies call him for the Nobel Peace Prize in the midst of his current efforts to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The representative Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., Held a letter on Tuesday to the Nobel Committee alongside the representative Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind.
Their appointment welcomes Trump as a peacemaker on several fronts, the most recent being its summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and a subsequent meeting with European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We respectfully submit this appointment of President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his concrete contributions to international brotherhood, to his leadership in conflict reduction and the risk of war, and his commitment to promote dialogue as a way for reconciliation,” wrote Ogles and Stutzman.
“His decisive leadership in obtaining historical diplomatic agreements, the deception of world conflicts and the active pursuit of peaceful resolutions to some of the most rooted disputes in the world have led and continue to lead to a more peaceful world.”

On Friday, Trump met Putin in Alaska, the first time that the leader of the Russian Federation spoke face to face with an American president since the couple was previously seated together during Trump’s first mandate. The two parties described the meeting in positive terms.
It was followed by an extraordinary rally at the White House on Monday with Zelenskyy and other leaders, where Trump promised Ukraine would have “a lot of help” for security, while specifying that Europe would be kyiv’s “first line of defense”.
Trump said on Truth Social later that he spoke with Putin at the end of this meeting and “started arrangements for a meeting, in a place to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy”.

The letter of appointment of the Republicans of the Chamber noted Trump’s decision in “the organization of a high challenges summit with President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, 2025, focused on creating a path to a cease-fire in Ukraine, exchanges of prisoners, humanitarian corridors and future security methods-a significant stage in the reopening of constructive dialogue.”
This also praised him for having “organized a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and many other European leaders on August 18, 2025, to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and facilitate a discussion between Presidents Zelenskyy and Putin to cause a fair and lasting peace in the region”.
Russia invaded Ukraine in order to take control of the sovereign state of the ex-Soviet territory in February 2022.
The two countries were locked in a bloody war that has made thousands of lives, including strong civilian victims in Ukraine, Russia attacks on non -military targets.
Trump has argued several times that Moscow has not invaded if he was president at the time.
Putin, according to similar but not identical lines, said on Friday that he thought that there would have been no war if Trump was president at the time.

In addition to dealing with his efforts to resolve the Eastern European conflict, the Ogles and Stutzman’s letter also praised Trump for negotiating a historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, “joined regional leaders on Gaza conflicts”, as well as the peace agreements struck during his first mandate, such as the Abraham agreements.
“Because of President Trump’s leadership, more people are alive today, and there are fewer wars in the world than before,” Ogles told Fox News Digital.
“He is a champion of America in the first state, proving that strength and prudence – not globalism – are not keys to an American foreign policy.
Stutzman, calling Trump “the president of peace”, added, “there is no one on the planet more deserving of this year’s Nobel Prize and several world leaders have recognized it.”
