Friday, President Donald Trump rejected the French president Emmanuel Macron on Friday to recognize a Palestinian state – a response in particular more soft than the strong conviction of the Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other best Republicans, who exploded the move a day earlier.

“What he says does not matter,” Trump told journalists in the White House. “He’s a very good guy. I like him, but this statement has no weight.”

Macron went to X Thursday to announce his intention for France to recognize a Palestinian state in the United Nations General Assembly next September.

Macron cited the need for an “immediate cease-fire” as well as the release of all hostages and humanitarian aid to the inhabitants of Gaza in his reasoning for France’s decision. He also said that Hamas should be demilitarized and that Gaza has rebuilt in a letter to the president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas whom he shared on X.

“The French people want peace in the Middle East,” Macron wrote in the letter translated into English on X. “It is to us, to the French, with the Israelis, the Palestinians and our European and international partners, to demonstrate that it is possible.”

The letter said that “peace is possible” while Macron said he was working to convince other partners to take the plunge.

Recognition of Palestine remains largely symbolic because it does not automatically grant membership in the UN or complete diplomatic links. About 150 of the 193 UN member states recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.

Trump’s words were much milder than the strong reprimands of the Secretary of State Marco Rubio as well as Senator Lindsay Graham, Rs.C., and Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Thursday.

Rubio described France’s recognition of “reckless” and a “slap opposite” to the victims of the October 7 attack shortly after Macron made this announcement on Thursday.

“The United States firmly rejects the plan of French President Emmanuel Macron to recognize a Palestinian state in the United Nations General Assembly,” wrote Rubio on X.

“This reckless decision only serves Hamas’ propaganda and puts peace. It is a slap in front of the victims of October 7.”

Senator Lindsay Graham, Rs.C., and Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Joined Rubio to remove Macron.

“The French government’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state is curious and disturbing on several levels. I am sure that it will enhance Hamas and make a ceasefire more difficult,” wrote Graham on X.

Graham also repressed against what he said to be the shortcomings of such a plan, asking a series of rhetorical questions twinned with sarcasm.

“Who is in charge? What are the borders and the borders? What is the governance structure? Hamas remains politically or militarily involved? West Bank and Gaza are part of a single state? Is it authorized to have an army? Does the education system change?” Graham wrote

“Apart from these few missing details, it seems to be a foolproof plan!”

Cotton has also smashed movements as a “shameful approval of terrorists”.

“The best way for this conflict to finish is to support Israel in its just mission to save hostages and defeat Hamas,” said Cotton.

Israeli officials responded quickly and suddenly to Macron quickly on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials responded quickly and suddenly.

“We strongly condemn the decision of President Macron to recognize a Palestinian state alongside Tel Aviv following the massacre of October 7,” Prime Minister Benajamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

“Such a decision rewards terror and the risks creating another Iranian proxy, just as Gaza has become. A Palestinian state under these conditions would be a launch ramp to destroy Israel – not to live in peace. Let’s be clear: Palestinians do not seek a state alongside Israel; they are looking for a state of Israel.”

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Yariv Levin, described the decision “a black spot on the history of France and a direct boost of terrorism”.

He added: “The country of Israel belongs to the people of Israel, and even the declaration of President Macron will not change this.” Levin called on Israel to apply sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and the Jordan valley, calling it “a just and historical response to the shameful decision of the president of France”.
