The current governor Brian Kemp, who is serving his second consecutive term, is not eligible for the race next year.

Carr recently made a legal challenge against Jones concerning the financing of campaigns.
“Mr. Jones collects and spends the sums of unlimited money in primary – and Mr. Carr is limited in what he can raise by the limits of the existing campaign contribution of Georgia. This court should level this unequal playing field by preventing Mr. Jones from using his management committee during the primary elections”, part of the complaint said.
