President Donald Trump approved Lieutenant-Governor of Georgia Burt Jones for the Governor, a decision that marks a blow to the candidacy of the competing governor of the PEACH State, Chris Carr.

The current governor Brian Kemp, who is serving his second consecutive term, is not eligible for the race next year.
GOP representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-GA., An ally of Trump, excluded an offer from governor in 2026 last month.

Carr recently made a legal challenge against Jones concerning the financing of campaigns.
“Mr. Jones collects and spends the sums of unlimited money in primary – and Mr. Carr is limited in what he can raise by the limits of the existing campaign contribution of Georgia. This court should level this unequal playing field by preventing Mr. Jones from using his management committee during the primary elections”, part of the complaint said.
