President Donald Trump closed the week crying the death of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk and honoring those who were lost during the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Kirk, 31, was murdered during his “American tour” at the University of Utah Valley on Wednesday. His death occurs a year after two assassination attempts against Trump.

“For my American compatriots, I am filled with sorrow and anger against the odious assassination of Charlie Kirk on a university campus of Utah,” said Trump in a video speech to the nation on Wednesday, a few hours after announcing Kirk’s death.

“Charlie inspired millions and tonight, everyone who knew and loved him are united in shock and horror,” said Trump. “Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of the open debate and the country he loved so much, the United States of America. He fought for freedom, democracy, justice and the American people. He is a martyr for truth and freedom, and there was never anyone who was so respected by youth.”

Trump said in an interview with “Fox & Friends” on Friday that an arrest was made in connection with Kirk’s assassination, and UTAH officials confirmed the suspect as Tyler Robinson, 22.

“I hope he will be convicted, I imagine. And I hope he will get the death penalty,” Trump said on Friday. “What he did, Charlie Kirk was the most beautiful person, he didn’t deserve it. He worked so hard and so well. Everyone loved him.”

Trump also commemorated the 24th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks at Pentagon and New York on Thursday. Trump, with First Lady Melania Trump, visited the Pentagon Thursday morning to remember the 2,977 lives lost in the attacks.

“This morning, we remember the light of the best and bravest in America and the love they have shown in their last moments,” said Trump.
