The highly anticipated summit in Alaska between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded without a concrete agreement, although the two leaders welcomed the meeting as positive.
Friday afternoon, the local time of the press event between Trump and Putin, the talks were described as “extremely productive” and “constructive” respectively, but neither of the two leaders would comment on what final progress has been made.
Trump said that in talks, he would not conclude any agreement on Ukraine or would not respond to territorial concessions. Instead, he underlined the need for a second meeting to include Putin and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy – which the chief of the Kremlin has so far refused to do.

None of the two parties announced Putin’s intention to meet Zelenskyy at the press event – although none of the two leaders responded to journalists – but in an interview with Sean Hannity of Fox News after the summit, Trump suggested that such a meeting was on the horizon.
“Many points have agreed,” said Trump. “There is one or two fairly important articles, but I think they can be reached.
“Now, it’s really up to President Zelenskyy to do so. And I would also say that European nations, they have to get involved,” he added. “And if they wish, I will be at this next meeting – they will organize a meeting now between President Zelenskyy and President Putin and myself, I suppose.”
Although the president also reiterated a point he made at the press conference with Putin when he said: “There is no agreement before there was an agreement.”

Trump would not comment on the problems he and Putin agree, nor the problems that remain controversial.
The president said that he would assess the conversation with Putin one “ten” in ten, with regard to the apparent cordiality of the discussion – in particular, he appreciated the comments of the Russian president when he said that he would not have invaded Ukraine if Trump had won the 2020 presidency.
Neither Putin nor Trump explained the reasoning of the chief of the Kremlin behind these comments.
Russian officials also praised the talks immediately after the summit, although it is not clear how the allies of Zelenskyy or NATO will react to the discussions, that Trump said that he would relay them immediately after the press event.
Trump did not discuss how his conversations took place with Zelenskyy or other European leaders.
