First on Fox: The interior department of President Donald Trump cancels what would have been one of the largest terrestrial wind farms in the United States after the “last minute” thrust of former president Joe Biden to approve the project in his last weeks in power.

Lava Ridge Wind Project, approved in December 2024 by the Bureau of Land Management of the Biden administration, was to be a 1,000 megawatts wind farm with up to 231 wind turbines in nearly 57,447 acres in southern Idaho.

Following an examination of the project by the Trump administration, the managers of the Interior Department claimed to find “crucial legal shortcomings” with the Biden Approval of the project, including certain binding binding criteria which were ignored, according to a press release announcing the decision to end the wind farm project.

“Under the bold direction of President Donald Trump, the ministry puts the brakes on deficient and unreliable energy and puts the American people first,” said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. “By reversing the implication approval by the Biden Administration of the Lava Ridge wind project, we protect tens of thousands of acres against harmful wind policy while protecting the interests of the rural communities of Idaho. This decisive action defends the greatest of taxpayers, safeguarded our land and would have been the largest and most impeccable wind projects in the country.”

The action of the interior department follows a day decree signed by Trump which decided to place a temporary moratorium on the controversial wind project. The order was followed by another executive directive of the governor of Idaho GOP, Brad Little, who ordered the State agencies to comply with the order of Trump to stop the Lava Ridge project and other wind energy rentals in all areas of the offshore continental platform.

In Trump’s decree, the president also asked for a new exam to be carried out by the Department of the Interior, citing the fact that the Biden Administration may have circumvented certain legal obligations associated with the approval of the Lava Ridge project.

The Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador previously accused the Biden administration of not having appropriately examined the potential risk of the wind farm for low -flight aircraft. According to the Labrador, the rules of the Federal Aviation Administration dictate that any structure more than 200 feet high must be assessed for the risk of low -level flight.

The Labrador also said that the Lava Ridge project would have mainly sent the power generated in California, as opposed to Idaho.

Meanwhile, the member of the Idaho GOP Congress, Mike Simpson, accused Biden’s approval process in a June editorial of not having “truly engaged with stakeholders to respond to concerns concerning the Minidoka national historic site, pasture, the response of forest fires, and even more”.

“For four years, the Biden administration has shown that it prefers to prioritize the renewable wind energy on multiple use mandates led by the congress,” added Simpson.

In a press release published on Wednesday, the Interior Department said that it “restored common sense to American energy policy by reversing the erroneous thrust of the last minute of the Biden administration to approve the Lava Ridge wind project”.

“Under President Donald J. Trump, the Ministry of the Interior will no longer provide preferential treatment towards unreliable and intermittent sources of power which harm rural communities, livelihoods and land,” concluded the press release. “The Ministry of the Interior will continue its examination of wind and license energy rental practices, emphasizing the evaluation of the impact of these developments on natural resources and communities of our country.”
