Managers should meet in Alaska, Trump said in an article on Truth Social.

“The long-awaited meeting between myself, as president of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place on Friday August 15, 2025 in the great state of Alaska,” Trump wrote in his article on Friday evening. “More details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this question!”

The meeting place was a major point of interest after the summit was launched for the first time following a call between Trump and Putin on Wednesday after the White House envoy, Steve Witkoff, went to Moscow to meet the chief of Kremlin.

Hungary, Switzerland, Italy and the United Arab Emirates were all under study, Putin originally promoting Hungary, according to sources familiar with planning.

Friday, the chief of the Kremlin also shot the idea of meeting in Italy, due to the perceived proximity of Rome with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

After Trump-Putin’s call on Wednesday, the American president also spoke with Zelenskyy with European leaders on the potential of a trilateral meeting.

Moscow – which has so far refused to hold direct meetings with Putin and Zelenskyy – did not seem likely to engage in a trilateral meeting of as soon as possible, as the Kremlin foreign policy advisor noted on Wednesday that the potential of such a meeting was “mentioned” but “not discussed”.

The reports later suggested that Putin could be open to face to face with Zelenskyy, but only if certain “conditions” are met, although what these conditions are remain vague.

Putin would have suggested that Ukraine should officially yield the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2022, but on which he does not have full control.

Although Zelenskyy has countered similar territorial requests by noting that by virtue of the Constitution of Ukraine, a national referendum should occur for any territorial concession.

Despite the immense obstacles that remain, Trump seemed optimistic when he addressed journalists on Wednesday that “there is a very good prospect that (Putin and Zelenskyy)” will meet “.

Zelenskyy said that at least a bilateral meeting between the United States and Russian leaders had been suggested, which would potentially be followed by a meeting with Trump, Putin and Zelenskyy.
