The Trump administration would block the president of Taiwan to stop in New York, on the way to a diplomatic meeting in Central America, after pressure from China.

THE Financial Times reported On Monday, the administration denied the Taiwanese president Lai Ching -te the opportunity to stop in New York during a trip planned for Paraguay, Guatemala and Belize – all countries that recognize Taiwan as his own independent country.

However, on Monday, the office of the president of Taiwan published a statement indicating that Lai “does not currently intend to make a visit abroad,” said Taiwan-State Media. A source familiar with the case in the State Department confirmed that no official travel plan for President Lai had been announced.

The news of the Trump administration’s decision to ban the Taiwanese president from stopping in New York comes as the president would feel a potential journey to Beijing himself, alongside the main American CEOs. However, nothing was put into stone concerning Trump’s journey.
