Even before the murder of Zarutska, the Republicans aimed to characterize Cooper as a far left democrat. But beating Cooper, who won the state six times – four times as a attorney general and twice as a governor – will not be easy.

The launch of Cooper’s campaign earlier this summer seemed to strengthen the chances of the Democrats to overthrow a key seat in the GOP while they are trying to take a big bite from the majority of the Senate of Republicans 53-47.
