The votes of the room to formalize the Epstein probe in the middle of the civil war on transparency efforts

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved a resolution officially authorizing the current investigation of the Supervisory Committee on Jeffrey Epstein.

The legislation has also authorized the publication by the Committee of “all the files of the non -classified committee received from the Attorney General, the Secretary of the Treasury and the Epstein domain, and any other goalkeeper linked to the investigation described in this resolution, as well as to any written declaration, or to other evidence which relates to the investigation described in this resolution, according to his text.

It is a largely symbolic decision that has been made to put a war of emerging words in the way of continuing transparency in the case of Epstein.

The treatment of the Ministry of Justice (DOJ) of the Epstein case and Duel efforts to continue that transparency is problems that dominated Capitol Hill during the two days, the legislators were back in Washington, DC, after their return from their annual recess in August.

The chairman of the Chamber’s supervisory committee, James Comer, R-Ky., Made the public some 33,000 pages of documents related to Epstein in a surprise decision on Tuesday evening.

The documents are the first tranche sent by the DoJ, which Commer assigned in early August in the context of the Bipartite of Epstein of the Panel.

The resolution was approved Wednesday in a vote from 212 to 208, with a republican of the House, the representative Kevin Kiley, R-Calif., “Present” voting. No democrat voted in favor.

But the opposition of the Democrats to the vote on Wednesday was not unexpected given the decision of the leaders of the GOP of the Chamber to combine the resolution with a “rule vote”, a procedural obstacle which allows the Chamber to debate several bills unrelated before voting on the measures themselves later. The “rules of rules” traditionally fall according to the party parties.

The leaders of the Chamber rather chose to consider the resolution of Epstein approved when adopting the rule, a method to accelerate the legislation by considering the measure itself adopted when the procedural obstacle is completed.

The investigation itself is bipartite, arising from an effort at an unrelated house surveillance committee meeting which saw the Democrats and the Republicans vote to force Comme to start the investigation.

The vote and the release of the supervisory committee seem to be an offer to neutralize an effort by the representatives Thomas Massie, R-Ky., And Ro Khanna, D-Calif., To force a vote on their own bill ordering the MJ to publish all the records on Epstein.

They put pressure on the republicans of the chamber to sign what is called a “discharge petition”, a mechanism to obtain a voting on the scale of the chamber on the legislation normally opposed by the leaders of the Chamber, provided that the petition obtains the majority of the signatures of the legislators.

Only six Republicans would be necessary to trigger the vote – there are currently four. Almost all Democrats have also signed.

Massie and Khanna held a press conference with several Epstein victims on Wednesday morning in order to push two other Republicans to join their efforts.

“I hope my colleagues look at this press conference. I want them to think, what if it was your sister? What if it was your daughter?” Massie said at the press conference.

“Now, the president of the room has just offered a figure sheet to my colleagues. They will vote on a non -binding resolution today which does absolutely nothing. I appreciate the efforts of my colleague James Comer, who directs the surveillance committee. They can find information, but they allow the Doj to keep all the information that the Doj gives them.”

President Mike Johnson, R-La., Who met the victims behind closed doors alongside Commer and members of the supervisory committee on Tuesday, previously accused Massie of politicizing the Epstein affair.

“I would describe almost all that Thomas Massie says, as linked to this question, as meaningful,” said Johnson, arguing that the Republicans of the Chamber were all attached to transparency.

Johnson supports Comer’s investigation, which, in addition to assigning the Doj, also saw the former prosecutor General Bill Barr.

Comer also sent quotes to appear to several former attorney general, former federal office of investigative directors, and the former first Bill de couple and Hillary Clinton. He assigned the Epstein domain at the end of last month.
