The United Kingdom will recognize a Palestinian state if Israel does not accept a cease-fire and head to peace in Gaza by September, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned on Tuesday.
Starmer made this announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, a day after meeting President Donald Trump in Scotland and discussed the War of Israel-Hamas and the Hunger Crisis in Gaza.
“I can confirm that the United Kingdom will recognize the state of Palestine by the United Nations General Assembly (Unga) in September, unless the Israeli government takes substantial measures to end the appalling situation in Gaza, only accepts a cease-fire and is committed to long-term sustainable peace, revolutionizing the prospect of a solution to two states,” Starmer told reporters. “This includes the authorization to restart the UN of the help of help and to specify that there will be no annexation in the West Bank.”
“Meanwhile, our message to Hamas terrorists is unchanged and unequivocal. They must immediately release all hostages. Register for a ceasefire, disarm and accept that they will not play any role in the Gaza government,” he continued.

Starmer said his government will make a final assessment before UNGA’s meeting to determine what Israel and Hamas measures have made and made a final decision on the recognition of a Palestinian state.
The British leader continued by saying that the main reason for the announcement is to change the situation on the ground in Gaza and to facilitate the release of more hostages.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel rejected the Starmer’s announcement on Tuesday in a declaration of counter-nomination.
“The change in the position of the British government at present, following the French move and internal political pressures, constitutes a reward for Hamas and harm the efforts to make a cease-fire in Gaza and a framework for the release of the hostages,” said the ministry.

The announcement of the United Kingdom comes one day after Starmer met Trump in Turnberry, Scotland, where the two leaders condemned the humanitarian crisis and hunger in Gaza.
Trump has publicly broken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the meeting, saying he disagreed that the hunger crisis is a false story advanced by Hamas.
“Based on television, I would not particularly say, because these children look very hungry,” said Trump when he was asked if he agreed with Netanyahu’s statements. “These are real things of famine.”

Trump has underlined the United States efforts to provide assistance to Gaza, noting some $ 60 million that the United States has spent the issue in recent days.
“We gave $ 60 million two weeks ago for food for Gaza, and no one recognized it. No one talks about it. And that makes you feel a little bad when you do this,” said Trump at a Sunday meeting with the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. “And, you know, you have other countries that give nothing.

Israel has started to do aid drops across Gaza in recent days, leaning on pressure after months of restriction of the aid flow. The FDI had long declared that Hamas stole a large part of the resources sent to the region, a statement that Trump and the United States have echoed.
