The Trump administration is looking for $ 1 billion at UCLA to settle discrimination and anti-Semitism allegations in exchange for restoration of more than half a billion dollars in university-free grant.

The proposed agreement sent to school on Friday obliges the UCLA to pay a billion dollars to the federal government on several payments, as well as to establish a claim fund of $ 172 million for alleged victims of violations of title VII of the law on civil rights, which prohibits the discrimination of employment based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

The Trump Administration has already suspended $ 584 million in Federal UCLA subsidies after the Ministry of Justice announced that it had discovered that the school had violated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment and title VI of the 1964 civil rights law.

In a declaration provided to Fox News Digital, UC President James Milliken said the university system had received the document with the offer and examined it.

“Earlier this week, we proposed to engage in a dialogue of good faith with the Department (of justice) to protect the university and its critical research mission,” said Milliken. “As a public university, we are the guardians of taxpayers resources, and a payment of this scale would completely devastate the largest public university system in our country as well as to harm our students and all Californians.

“Americans through this great nation are based on the vital work of the UCLA and the UC system for technologies and medical therapies that save lives, develop the American economy and protect our national security.”

“Demanding $ 1 billion in a research establishment funded by the public is an abusive use of taxes that will harm the University’s mission to serve students and the public,” he said in a statement. “The UCLA, and the largest UC system, have taken significant measures to clearly indicate that the fight against anti -Semitism and the protection of Jewish students, teachers and community members on campus is an absolute priority.”

“They have undertaken to increase security, strengthen policies against hatred and engage directly with Jewish voices to better inform their approach,” he added. “If the administration’s mission is really to protect the Jewish community, they would support this work – and not the hamstrings with these bizarre requirements which would not bring the resources and services necessary for students and teachers.”

The UCLA pays a major settlement on the claims of discrimination in the “Jewish exclusion zone” of students

The Senator of the State of California, Ben Allen, a democrat whose district includes the UCLA, said that the request of the Trump administration “was harmed the engines of American power, innovation and, in fact, of grandeur”.

This decision one day came after the governor of California Gavin Newsom criticized the colonies between Colombia And the brown universities, the two Ivy League schools and the Trump administration.

“We are not brown, we are not Columbia and I will not be governor if we act like that,” said Newsom speaking to San Francisco. “Period. Complete stop, I will fight like hell to make sure it happens.”

Columbia will pay more than $ 220 million to resolve several federal civil rights surveys, including $ 21 million to settle anti -Semitic discrimination allegations against Jewish teachers after the attack on October 7, 2023 in Israel.

Brown will spend $ 50 million over a decade of state labor development organizations in the US government.

In July, the UCLA agreed to pay $ 6 million to settle a lawsuit brought by Jewish students and teachers for the treatment of anti-Israeli demonstrations by the school, in particular by allowing demonstrators to ban the Jews of a part of the campus known as the “Jewish exclusion zone”.
