Friday, the State Department will head towards the layoff of nearly 2,000 employees while it begins its reorganization plan.

An internal memo was released Thursday evening by Michael Rigas, deputy management and resources secretary, announced that domestic employees affected by force reduction (RIF) would be informed “in the coming days”.

About 1,800 people will be affected, Fox News learned.

RIF’s opinions plus voluntary departures under the Trump administration represent a reduction in the workforce by 15%.

“Much of this, as we have said, covers redundant offices and takes some of these cross -cutting functions and moves them to regional offices and our embassies abroad, to people who are closest to where diplomacy occurs, to empower them the resources and authorities they need to be able to conduct the foreign policy of the President.”

The spokesperson for the State Department, Tammy Bruce, warned Thursday that the agency would move quickly after the Supreme Court aroused the injunction of the lower court preventing the administration from implementing reductions of force at the general scale between federal agencies.

A senior official said that there was currently no closings abroad of embassies and outposts. They added that the State Department will work to preserve the dignity of affected workers.

“We are going to work to preserve the dignity of federal workers,” said the official. “We want to be sensitive to this process and make sure that people have the resources they need … and make sure everyone is treated with dignity.”
