Russia narrowly avoided an armed skirmish with Romania, a member of the NATO alliance, after hitting only half a thousand of its border.

Romanian defense officials think that the new law adopted by the Parliament explicitly allowing its armed forces to shoot down Russian drones which fly over its territory prevented the Kremlin from engaging in its territory.

Russia has struck a gas distribution center in the Ismail region of Ukraine with Kamikaze Shahed drones on Tuesday and Wednesday, so near the border of Romania that Bucharest deployed F-16 aircraft to monitor. No unauthorized intrusion has been reported.

“They know that we have adopted this law, and in the past two months, they have avoided crossing our airspace,” a Romanian source of defense told Fox News Digital.

Ilie Bolojan, the president of Romania, at the time, signed the law, that the Romanian parliament had adopted in February in response to Russian drones repercussions on its territory during attacks against Ukraine.

The law specifies that the Romanian authorities must establish the position and identity of the drone, the attempt to contact, the interception and the fire warning fire, before neutralizing it.

Piloted vehicles can only be destroyed if they make an attack or react aggressively.

Romania shares a 380 -wide wide border with Ukraine, although at that time there is no evidence that Moscow has deliberately targeted its territory.

Ukraine generally receives gas via the Orlovka gas distribution center in Izmail from Greece, Turkey and Romania.

Russia has launched its greatest air attack in the war, said Ukraine

If Russia had engaged in Romanian territory and Romania responded by slaughtering its drones, an escalation of tit-tray risks drawing a member state of NATO directly in the war.

NATO allies accept Article 5, a collective defense pact which indicates that everyone would come with the other in the case of an attack.

Earlier this week, drones are considered from Bélarus, a client state of Russia, landed in Lithuanian territory.

Other Eastern European States have promulgated new laws to strengthen their borders of the threat of Russia: Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania withdrawn from an international treaty prohibiting the use of land mines on humanitarian concerns earlier this year.

Lithuania asked NATO this week to help strengthen its air defenses after a Russian drone carrying explosives entered its territory.

“It is not only a Lithuanian airspace, not just the safety of Lithuania – it is NATO airspace, NATO security and also EU security,” said Foreign Minister Kęstatis Budrys.
