The candidates for New York town hall, Zohran Mamdani, and the former governor of New York Andrew Cuomo are confronted with who is a better supporter of the police after the mass shooting on Monday in an office building in Midtown Manhattan.

Mamdani is the legislator of the 33 -year -old Democratic Socialist State of the Queen who shocked the political world last month by coming from behind for the Top Cuomo and nine other candidates to capture the appointment to the Democrat mayor in the extremely blue city. He was criticized after the shooting on his past comments calling for the NYPD.

Cuomo called Mamdani “anti-political”, arguing that he “does not understand the need for public security”.

“He said the NYPD was racist, the police are a threat to public security,” Cuomo accused Cuomo on Wednesday morning before a press conference held by Mamdani, during which he addressed Cuomo reviews. “I think it is dangerous because it does not understand the need for public security in this city.”

After the shooting of Manhattan this week, Mamdani faces a meticulous examination of the past declarations made on social networks in 2020 when he called to finance the police on several occasions. And Mamdani, who spent the last days in his native Uganda to celebrate her recent marriage, was also reprimanded for what some support his late response to the shooting, who left four dead, including a police officer.

In response to Cuomo criticisms, Mamdani criticized the former governor to politicize the mass shooting that occurred in downtown Manhattan this week, while exploding the former governor to be stuck in the past.

“I know that Governor Cuomo is much more comfortable in the past, whether he is to attack the tweets made before I was even a member of the Assembly,” said Mamdani at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon after Cuomo’s morning review.

They were the first public remarks of Mamdani from the worst New York mass rifle in a quarter of a century.

“Cuomo wants him to run against me in the past. He wants to find every tweet he can. He does not want to watch the present but the past,” added Mamdani.

Cuomo denied Mamdani’s claims that he used mass shooting to score political points, telling Fox News Digital in response to Mamdani’s refutation that “this is not politicizing tragedy … It is a political discussion that we must have in this campaign”.

“The discussion on public security has been underway for months. This is a very important subject,” said Cuomo. “This is a daily problem and, yes, it is a political discussion that we must have in this campaign.”

Cuomo, who presents himself in the general elections of November as an independent candidate after losing his candidacy for the appointment of the Democratic Party, said that, for him, “public security comes first”.

Pivoting the recent mass shoot in Manhattan, Cuomo also suggested that the extent of the shooting, which attracted a lot of national attention, could shake the mayor’s race.

“New Yorkers have an SSPT of September 11 and other horrible situations, and I think it is always at the back of each New Yorker in mind that everything you need is, it is a mentally ill person with a assault weapon and it is TNT, it is a public security stick,” said Cuomo. “And, yes, I think it has brought this back. It’s back to reality. In New York, you are a target.”

During the press conference on Wednesday, Mamdani sought to distant his comments in 2020 on the funding of the police, arguing that they had been made before even entering the public service and “in the midst of a frustration that many New Yorkers held the murder of George Floyd”.

“I am proud of the public security platform that we have gathered,” said Mamdani. “So that the former governor had spent a whole day speaking almost exclusively about me and barely on the New Yorkers who have been killed, he is indicative of the politics that New Yorkers want to leave in the past.”
