Fox News Digital contacted Bowser, Mendelson and Schwalb to comment.

A few hours earlier, Trump declared a public security emergency in the district and invoked part of the DC Home Rule Act – which granted Washington, DC, more independence from the Congress – allowing him to take control of the local police for 48 hours.

“Our capital was overwhelmed by violent gangs and blood thirsty criminals, itinerant crowds of violent young people, drug addicts and homeless, and we are not going to happen,” Trump said at a press conference at the White House.

However, in order to go beyond the 48 -hour brand, the president needs the approval of the supervisory committee of the Chamber and the Senate Committee for Indoor Security and Government Affairs – the two panels who have the surveillance of Washington, DC

Trump can resume the district police forces for 30 days if they send a special opinion to the panels, but beyond, this would require a joint resolution of the Chamber and the Senate extending the takeover.
