A conservative legislator House Freedom Caucus is launching its campaign to be governor of South Carolina.

The representative Ralph Norman, RS.C., who came to the congress in 2017, launched his candidacy of Palmetto State on Sunday with a Rock Hill campaign rally.

“I run for the governor to shake things up, to clean Columbia and finally kidnap the corrupt political establishment once and for all,” said Norman to the voters, according to the prepared remarks obtained by Fox News Digital. “I do not owe anything to lobbyists. I do not owe anything to the Bureaucratic elite of Columbia. My allegiance is yours, to the inhabitants of Southern Carolina.”

Within the framework of his campaign platform, Norman promises to establish a “commission” of the Ministry of Effectiveness of the Government (DOGE) in the State “which excites waste, fraud and abuses”.

Norman also presents itself on the promise to repair the infrastructure of Southern Carolina, to implement mandate limits for state legislators, reform of the offense and to commit to “let the people vote on the judges”.

Currently, the majority of state judgments in South Carolina are decided by the General Assembly. Some positions, including magistrate judges, are appointed by the governor.

Norman also promises to “use the intimidation chair to bring my case directly to people” and “use the veto pen”.

His campaign speech also addresses socially conservative objectives such as defending the choice of school and restricting gender school rooms at birth.

“And if all this does not work, I now tell you that all the so -called” republican “rino legislator who does not represent the reforms that people call do not deserve to be in office and we will defeat them in republican primaries if that’s what it takes,” says Norman’s speech.

Norman joins a crowded republican primary field with his announcement on Sunday. The South Carolina Attorney General, Alan Wilson, Lieutenant-Governor Pamela Evette and State Senator Josh Kibrell are also in the race.

Meanwhile, the colleague of Norman’s House, representative Nancy Mace, RS.C., also envisaged a campaign for the governor.

And in a state that President Donald Trump won nearly 20 points in 2024, the approval of the commander -in -chief – in the primary and general elections – will probably be critical.

Norman underlined in his speech that he and Trump have history in real estate; The two men led development companies that have been founded by their fathers.

“We need business leaders – people who signed both the front and back of a pay check. The people who have built something, caught up, earned money and yes, have also lost money,” said Norman. “Fortunately, we have a big businessman – and a developer colleague – in the White House! Look at what the difference made President Trump in six months.”

He also presented himself as a disruptor who helped move “the needle by making our budget more conservative”, in reference to the thrust of the House Freedom Caucus to move “Big and Beautiful Bill” of Trump on the right.

And while the group managed to do so in the House, the Senate watered up several of these victories during its time considering the bill. The Senate version finally adopted the Chamber, Norman and other members of the Freedom Caucus voted in support.

“Some say that I have acquired the reputation of being without compromise, always trying to make a bill more conservative,” said Norman’s speech. “Well, I’m going to take it as a compliment and I’m proud of it.”

As a member of the Congress, Norman sits on the committee of the Chamber of Financial Services, the Chamber’s Budget Committee and the Chamber Rules Committee.

A long -standing ally of the former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley, Norman was the only republican in the Chamber to officially approve her before Haley withdraws from the race, after which Norman supported Trump.

He told Fox News Digital of his approval in January 2024: “When I supported Nikki Haley, I had respect for Donald Trump to call him, and I told him what I was going to do, and I decided that I was going to do it.”

It should be noted, however, that Norman was a vocal supporter of Trump since the release of Haley – and unlike the other allies of the Freedom House caucus, he did not engage Trump’s anger for his loyalty to Haley.

He was recently at the White House this week with other Republicans of the House for a reception celebrating their legislative successes.

The general elections of the Governor of South Carolina will take place in November 2026.
