EXCLUSIVE: The Democratic Senator of Arizona Ruben Gallego presents on Wednesday a legislation which would end the requirement of polygraphic test for certain candidates for customs and American borders.
The exception would apply to those who are veterans and who are currently used in the army, as well as current and ancient officials of the application of laws, because they often already pass polygraphic tests before being hired.
“CBP is stretched thin, and the hiring system is part of the problem. We lose qualified candidates for administrative formalities and delays,” Gallego said in a statement to Fox News Digital on the “Border Patrol Recruitment AGTENTION ACTMENTS ACT.”

“If you have already served in the military or the police, we should not make you jump through unnecessary hoops just to serve your country. I am proud to direct this bill to help CBP hire border agents and port officers faster, reduce bureaucracy and keep our border safe,” he continued.
Similar legislation was introduced to the House before, in particular by the representative Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, during the border crisis in 2023 and in 2019.
Gallego’s decision to bring the idea back, which changes the 2010 law on anti-border corruption, is feared that a high number of pensions are bothering the agency, as well as the current CBP hiring process being 11 stages.

“I proudly served my country as a veteran sailor and combat in the United States, as a deputy for the Sheriff of the county of Yuma, and for more than 18 years as an agent of border patrol. I know with first hand the level of commitment, discipline and sacrifice that it takes to serve – and I also know the frustration that comes when qualified officials are different capacities, the national vice of innocent drafting of the reduction of reducing school bands, to serve in a sea capacity, of innocent contradiction of the taperar of the US Federal declared in a press release.
“Veterans and law enforcement professionals have already proven itself in the years of service. The slowdown in the federal hiring process with bureaucratic obstacles is only sub-employed staff and undergo national security,” she added.

Fox News Digital contacted the Border Patrol Union and CBP. The union has raised concerns about the failures of polygraph tests which are perhaps intentional during the Biden years, according to only news. The union also supported the proposals to relieve polygraph requirements for some, according to some Bloomberg Law in 2017.
More specifically, the bill would ensure that an agent of the police or a member of the service is or not under an investigation or has training with criminal offenses or a professional fault.

The Ministry of Defense creates a program to allow its civil labor to volunteer to go to the southern border to support operations.
On the house side, a thrust was carried out through domestic safety credits on CBP polygraph requirements, according to Bloomberg government.
While illegal border crossings have continued to be in low records since Trump took office, the entrance ports continue to be a major objective to stop illegal drug trafficking in the United States, including fentanyl. Congress was the main objective of the long -term discussion on immigration and border security, including the ongoing debate of the bill of reconciliation.

Regarding the shortages of CBP, Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Senator Gary Peters, D-Michigan, presented legislation last month to demand that the CBP hires a minimum of 1,000 people per year until they are fully endowed with personnel.
“When the entrance ports are not sufficiently endowed with personnel, we run the risk of legitimate trade and grinding of travel,” Cornyn said in a statement last month. “Nowhere we do not feel that more acute than in Texas where we have more entry ports than any other state, which is why I am proud to copardify this legislation to guarantee that our ports have the necessary staff to manage the safe and legal flow of people and goods in our country.”
