EXCLUSIVE: The Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and internal security secretary Kristi Noem are both on board the creation of a Coast Guard secretary, Fox News Digital learned.

The Coast Guard is the only military service that falls within the scope of the Ministry of Internal Security and has no first civil secretary who directs the service – unlike the navy, the army and the Air Force.

“I consider the creation of a secretary of the Coast Guard as a vital stage towards strengthening strategic integration and alignment between the Ministry of Internal Security and the Ministry of War,” Hegseth said in the letter.

“In addition, a Coastal Guard secretary would strengthen civil surveillance of the army, a fundamental principle of our constitution,” said Hegseth. “A secretary dedicated to the services would promote the appropriate directives of managers of executives and policies for the critical coast guard set, would provide clear leadership and advocacy and ensure that the service effectively argues the priorities of the Secretary of Home Security and the President of the United States.”

Noem said that a coastal secretary will allow him to better carry out joint operations with other services. The efforts to install a secretary of the coastal guard also go to steam on Capitol Hill.
