The Pentagon is preparing to ask President Donald Trump to authorize the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former adult of the army found guilty of having made the 2009 mass shooting in Fort Hood in Texas, said a senior Ministry of Defense at the Daily call foundation.

If it is approved, it would be the first American military execution in more than six decades. Hasan, a former army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and injured 32 others in the attack.

Hasan entered the preparing center for Fort Hood soldiers armed with a semi-automatic pistol and opened fire on colleagues members of the service preparing for deployment.

During his subsequent trial, Hasan admitted the shooting and said it was necessary to protect the “Islamic Empire” from American forces.

The Pentagon had classified the massacre as an act of “violence at work”, a decision which aroused strong criticism from the legislators, families of victims and national security experts. They argued that he obscures the ideological and terrorist motivations behind the attack.

In 2013, a military jury sentenced Hasan and sentenced him to death.

After years of appeal, Hasan’s final legal challenge was rejected in April 2025, paving the way for execution.

Hasan, born in Arlington, Virginia, in 1970 of Palestinian immigrant parents, served almost 20 years in the army before adopting radical Islamist beliefs.

As he was stationed in Fort Hood in 2009, he had become frank in his opposition to American military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, justifying the suicide attacks as legitimate acts of war.
