A meeting of this size and this scope is very unusual and would generally take place on a secure video teleconference – around 800 generals and admirals are distributed across the United States and the world.

The absence of details surrounding the rally feared an imminent purge. The Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, previously said that he wanted to reduce 20% of senior generals and admirals.

The order, indicated for the first time by the Washington Post, Applies to senior officers with the grade of general brigadier or superior or their equivalent of the navy and their best enlisted advisers.

In May, Hegseth published a directive to reduce approximately 100 generals and admirals, as well as a “minimum” of 20% to four -star officers. He ordered an additional reduction of 10% in general and flag officers through the military.

The secretary described the reduction in the part of his “less general, more SIG policy”.

According to Hegseth, there are currently 44 officers of four stars and flag through the army, which makes a general ratio at 1,400 soldiers, compared to the ratio during the Second World War of a general at 6,000 soldiers.
