The candidate of the Democrat mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, continues to try a political pivot after his posts of “police financing” made a meticulous examination following a mass shooting in Manhattan, because some of his criticisms say that it is too late.

“I have said many and many times that each decision that I take with regard to NYPD will work from a public security result. And that public security, we know that it is also listening to the officers themselves. Two hundred officers leave the department each month. A main cause of their departure is excessive excessive time,” said Mamdani on Monday.

“And the fact that each year we ask them to assume additional responsibilities, we make more and more difficult for them to respond to the very responsibilities that have attracted them to work,” he added.

Mamdani called for the creation of a Community Security Ministry to deal with certain “mental health programs and crisis response”, according to his campaign website.

“And I think of the seven main categories of crimes listed in Complest. This is not the full extent of what we ask agents to do. NYPD receives 200,000 mental health calls each year. How can they expect to answer this and this?

Fox News Digital reported that Mamdani had made several public calls to “defeat the police” dating from June 2020, then slightly changed his melody during his campaign.

“We do not need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-reservoir and a major threat to public security,” he posted on June 28, 2020. “What we need is #defundthenypd. But your compromise uses budgetary tips to keep as many cops as possible on the pace. No for false cuts-Falls the police.”

“We need a socialist municipal council to finance the police,” he wrote on July 3, 2020.

“Queer release means finance the police,” Mamdani posted on November 6, 2020.

Even he said in a position to “dismantle” the police in December 2020.

“The municipal council tried to ensure that the NYPD half reduced its budget in overtime,” posted Mamdani on X. “They simply refused. There is no negotiation with such a nasty and corrupt institution. Found it. Unmaw it. Finish the cycle of violence.”

During a debate at the town hall in primary, he changed his tone since the past years.

“I will not finish the police. I will work with the police because I believe that the police have an essential role to play in the public service, public security,” he said.

His comments faced a meticulous examination following the mass shooting on avenue 345, where five died, including the shooter and a police officer, Didarul Islam.

“My heart is broken to learn the horrible shooting in Midtown and I hold the victims, their families and the NYPD officer in critical condition in my thoughts. Recognizing for all our first stakeholders on the ground,” posted Mamdani to X after the shooting, and he returned from his trip to Uganda early in the rest of the tragedy.

However, the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, who is a former police officer, said that his recent rhetoric and actions, including participation in the funeral of Islam, are a political tactic.

“We lost officers before presenting himself to the mayor. Where was he? He felt that these officers deserved to be raised when he was now lifting Islam officer during the elections? We must ask, where was he?” Adams told journalists at the Town Hall on Monday, according to the New York Post.

The closely observed elections are found on November 4, and there remains a race for several lanes between Mamdani, Adams, the Republican Curtis Sliwa and the former governor Andrew Cuomo.
