The senator from the state of Minnesota, Nicole Mitchell, was found guilty of criminal burglary on Friday, more than a year after her arrest when she made it possible to break into the house of her mother-in-law.
Mitchell made the pressure to resign on both sides of the aisle since her arrest, but had defenders who said that she was deserving her day in court. “Senator Mitchell has received a regular procedure, a trial by a jury of his peers, and this jury made a verdict. I am relieved to see the end of the trial of Senator Mitchell. The resolution of the case brings a clarity to the situation,” said Murphy in a statement published by the DFL after the verdict.
“Senator Mitchell told colleagues that she intended to resign if she was found guilty of this crime, and I expect her to follow this commitment. Our Caucus remains focused on the questions that matter for Minnesotan families and communities.”

The state legislator was arrested in April 2024, suspected of having broken into the house of his mother-in-law.
