The Ministry of Justice has announced that it was investigating the University of California (UC) for alleged violations of discrimination in title VII in its job practices.

The agency announced on Thursday that its civil rights division examines the university’s individual campuses concerning potential discrimination based on race and sex in employment practices.

The “UC 2030 capacity plan” of the University orders its campuses to hire “various” teachers to meet employment quotas based on race and sex, said the Ministry of Justice.

“These initiatives openly measure the new hires by their race and their sex, which is potentially rising to federal law,” the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.

“The dispute section of the employment of the civil rights division will examine whether the University of California is engaged in a model or a discrimination practice based on race, sex and other protected characteristics, in accordance with title VII of the civil rights law of 1964.”

Title VII prohibits an employer from discriminating an individual on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, said Harmeet Dhillon, the deputy prosecutor of the Civil Rights Division of the Ministry of Justice.

“Public employers are bound by federal laws which prohibit racial discrimination and other employment,” said Dhillon. “Institutional guidelines that use hiring practices based on breed and sex expose employers to a legal risk under federal law.”

Thursday, the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice wrote at the University, informing it of the survey.

“Our survey is based on information suggesting that the University of California can be engaged in certain employment practices that discriminate employees, employment candidates and participants in the training program according to race and sex in violation of title VII,” said the letter.

“More specifically, we have reasons to believe that the” UC 2030 capacity plan “of the University of California has precipitated an illegal action from the University of California and all its constituent campuses.”

UC said it would work in good faith with the Ministry of Justice when he is investigating.

“The University of California is attached to fair and law processes in all our programs and activities, in accordance with federal and anti-discrimination laws”, a UC declaration was provided to Fox News Digital Reads. “The university also aims to promote an environment on the campus where everyone is welcomed and supported.”

The University’s 2030 UC 2030 capacity plan establishes an objective of becoming a national model as a Hispanic operating institution (HSI) and an Institution at service in minorities (MSI). The plan describes a pipeline strategy aimed at diversifying teachers and researchers through inscriptions and enlarged awareness of institutions that serve under-represented students. The MJ, however, says that these initiatives can violate title VII by functioning as de facto employment quotas.

The university provost, Katherine S. Newman, sent a letter to the managers of the system informing them that diversity declarations are no longer necessary for new candidates. Newman wrote that if certain programs and departments have forced them, the university has never had a policy of diversity and thinks that it could harm the assessment of the candidates.

“The obligation to submit a declaration of diversity can lead the candidates to focus on an aspect of their candidacy outside their expertise or their previous experience,” said the letter obtained by Fox News Digital.

She added that employees and candidates can always refer to achievements related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) by themselves, but requiring declarations of autonomous diversity is no longer authorized.
