Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the current mayor of New York, Eric Adams, everyone urged to abandon their mayor in the 2025 race against the candidate of the Democratic Party, Zohran Mamdani.
“I think everyone should line up behind the person who won one as mayor,” said Adams on a press conference on Monday.
Meanwhile, Cuomo’s best adviser argued in a statement that “we do not see any way to the victory for the mayor Adams”.
Mamdani, the 33 -year -old Democratic Socialist Democratic Assembly, two weeks ago, exceeded Cuomo of 12 points to win the primary of the mayor of the Democratic Party. Mamdani instantly became the clear precursor in the November general elections in New York Blue York, where Democrats are more numerous than the Republicans by a margin of about six to one.

With his victory over Cuomo and nine other Democratic candidates, Mamdani sent political shock waves across the country and made a big step to become the first Muslim mayor of the most populous city in the country.
Cuomo, the governor with three mandates who resigned automatically in 2021 in the midst of several scandals and which was aimed at a political return, had been the favorite of the mayor’s primary race for months until Mamdani gave up in the last weeks of the campaign.

Mamdani will compete in November against the Republican Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the patrols of fight against voluntary crime known as the Guardian Angels. Sliwa is the GOP candidate for a consecutive second electoral cycle.

Jim Walden, a former federal prosecutor who presents himself as an independent, is also on the ballot.
Adams, who won the elections as mayor in 2021 as a democrat, presents himself as independent. The mayor abandoned his offer of democratic re -election earlier this year in the midst of the survey numbers to be signed following multiple controversies.
Although he recognized Mamdani’s victory during the primary night, Cuomo left the door open for having run as an independent candidate, who settles the rules of elections in the license of New York State.
The Republicans use the victory of the bomb in Mamdani over Cuomo as ammunition to explode democrats as extremists
And Cuomo recently let a deadline for the candidates who had already qualified themselves to present themselves as an independent voting line.
“I think thatrew and Curtis should rally behind me. I won as mayor. You know, I am the only one who is in this race at the moment that has ever won as mayor,” said Adams at his press conference.

And in an interview with CNBC, Adams said that during a recent conversation, the former governor had asked him to withdraw.
“I said,” Andrew, are you that arrogant level? I am the seated mayor! “” Said Adams about his conversation with Cuomo. “I am the mayor seated in New York when you just lost to Zohran 12 points.”
“They heard your message. You lost,” added Adams. “It’s the highest level of arrogance.”
These Democrats have not approved Mamdani, but they defend him against Trump
Adams survey numbers were still running before he was even charged last year with five counts, who accused the mayor of corruption and fraud as part of an alleged “long -term” regime to personally take advantage of contacts with foreign officials.

The mayor made repeated openings to the president Donald TrumpAnd the Ministry of Justice earlier this year rejected the accusations of corruption, so that Adams can potentially work with the Trump administration on its illegal immigration repression.
“The mayor Adams did not run in the Democratic primary because he knew he was an anathema for the Democrats and not electable. Nothing has changed,” Cuomo advisor charged on Monday.
And Azzopardi underlined a proposal made last week by Walden that an independent study should be conducted to see which candidate would be the strongest to face Mamdani, the weakest suitors agreeing to abandon.
Azzopardi argued that Walden “correctly underlines that if he, the mayor Adams and Governor Cuomo take place all, everything except a socialist victory. Jim proposed that an independent investigation be taken in September to determine who is the candidacy and the vision of New York in a head-to-head race in November.”

“It’s time to put aside the usual political selfishness and agree to do what is really best for all New Yorkers,” added Azzopardi. “While we review this proposal, we call on other candidates to do the same.”
Walden said in an interview on Fox News Radio’s “MondayFox across America with Jimmy Failla “ That a Mamdani victory in November “would be terrible for the city and would rest for an entire generation, I therefore proposed a survey in late September in early October”.
“If the candidates have accepted this, we would all agree on a survey that would happen and it would be the winner would take everything,” he said.
Mamdani has achieved a main victory thanks to an energetic campaign that has emphasized the affordability and high cost of New York.
The approvals of representative Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez – the most important progressive in New York – and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the second Democratic finalist, helped Mamdani to solidify support on the left.
Mamdani has made intelligent use of social media platforms, including Tiktok, while he was engaging in low propagation voters. He proposed to eliminate the prices to set up the vast bus system from New York, making rents from Cuny (University of the City of New York), freezing rents on municipal housing, offering “free daycares” for children up to 5 years and the establishment of grocery stores managed by the government.
And thanks in part to the efforts of a huge army of basic volunteers, he brought a wave of support for younger and progressive voters to catapult themselves in first place.

Mamdani’s victory has revived long -standing debates within the Democratic Party between its more moderate and progressive wings, and between foreigners and the establishment.
And that rekindled the debate on the question of whether the party policy or messaging was to blame for the setbacks of last November elections, when the Democrats lost control of the White House and the Senate, and did not recognize the majority of the room.
