During his remarks, Johnson accused “the extreme right” of refusing to accept the results of the civil war, when slavery was abolished.

“They have repeatedly called for a revenge match, but in the coming weeks, we will take advantage of this opportunity to develop greater resistance. Chicagoans are clear that the militarization of our troops in our city as justification to further increase a war in Chicago will not be tolerated,” he said.

“The right of this country wants a revenge match of the civil war,” said Johnson during the press conference.

Johnson said that Chicago “would not tolerate ice agents who violated the constitutional rights of our residents” or the “contempt” of the Trump administration for the local authority.

“With this decree, Chicago is firm to protect the constitutional rights of our residents and communities of immigrants and maintaining our democracy,” said Johnson.

Johnson ordered the agencies and departments of Chicago to identify the spaces in the next five days which have been targeted during the ice raids and to publish a clear message to federal immigration agents that the property belonging to the city would not be used for the application of immigration, including as a stadil area, treatment location or operational base.

“If the federal government violates this decree, we will bring them to court,” said Johnson, urging Trump to leave Chicago “the monster alone”.

Pritzker, long considered a potential presidential candidate in 2028, said on Sunday that he had refused to comply with the “Ultimatum” of the Trump administration to deploy the troops of the Illinois National Guard, calling on “absolutely scandalous and non -American”.

“We must now start calling this what is: Trump’s invasion,” said Pritzker.
