First on Fox: A republican of the Senate wants to ensure that legislators feel pain in their portfolios while the closure of the federal government extends.
Congress members, unlike other federal employees, are guaranteed to be paid during a government closure. But Senator Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, wants to impose a tax on the legislators who would gnaw at their pay checks.
Moreno plans to introduce taxpayer reservoir, refuse wages on the Washington negligence law (closure), which would create a new tax specifically for legislators.

The judgment crossed a third day without the clear ramp in sight. The Senate should again vote on the extension of short -term GOP financing on Friday, but the Democrats of the Senate should again block it.
“Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries want to be paid to close the government,” Moreno said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “It’s ridiculous. If the Congress cannot be barely minimum, we do not deserve a pay check.”

Congress members earn an average of $ 174,000 per year. This number can fluctuate depending on whether the legislator is in the steering position. Preventing legislators from being paid during a closure is difficult, however, since the American Constitution forces them to receive a pay check even if the government is closed.
Article I, Article 6 of the Constitution requires that “senators and representatives receive compensation for their services, to be noted by law and paid to the Treasury of the United States”.
Then, there is the 27th amendment, which was ratified in 1992, which prevents Congress from adopting a law affecting its salary during the current duration of the Congress.

Moreno’s bill could bypass these railings by imposing a daily tax on the legislators who would increase every day that the members are in session and that a closure continues.

Meanwhile, the probability that closing ends this week is low. The Democrats of the Senate, led by the head of the Senate minority, Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., are firmly rooted in their position that unless an agreement is concluded on the Obamacare tax credits, they will continue to block the continuous resolution of GOP (CR).
The head of the majority of the Senate, John Thune, RS.D., plans to continue to provide the same bill, which the Chamber adopted last week, in order to deviate from the Democrats of the Senate. Until now, only three members of the Democratic Caucus – Sens. John Fetterman, D-P., Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., And Senator Angus King, I-Maine, joined the Republicans to vote for the bill.
