Ernst, who presides over the Caucus du Senate Doge appointed according to the Ministry of Efficiency of the Tech-Billionaire Government Elon Musk, put the fault of a potential closure on the head of the Senate minority, Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., in his letter to the director of CBO Phillip Swagel.

“The same politicians moaning and complained about the Department of Government efficiency who put unnecessary bureaucrats just a few months ago now require a closure of the government to exhibit who is and is not an essential employee,” she wrote.

Ernst asked for an analysis of the agency’s radical economic operational impact, in particular the way in which a closure could affect remuneration costs for non -essential employees on leave, military, wages of the congress and the wider economic impact than the government’s closure could have on the private sector.

More specifically, she wanted to know how companies could be affected by a temporary judgment of government services, such as loans, permits and certifications, and how companies and businesses could recover losses after the end of a stop.

It also wanted information on loss of efficiency within the government and the costs that could accumulate unattended purchases or authorize contracts to be traveled, and if the burden of keeping national parks would fall in the United States or if they would also be closed.

The CBO provided an analysis The cost of the last time the government closed in 2019, when Schumer and President Donald Trump disagreed to provide funding to build a wall on the southern border. This 35 -day closure was the longest in American history, and no funding for a border wall was granted.

The report, published in January 2019, revealed that the closure experienced around $ 18 billion in federal spending, which resulted in a drop in gross domestic product in the first quarter of $ 8 billion. The report notes about $ 3 billion from those who are not recovered.

He also found that federal workers who received delayed payments and private companies were the hardest.

“Some of these private sector entities will never recover this lost income,” said the report.

It is not clear if the head of the majority of the Senate John Thune, Rs.d., and Schumer can conclude an agreement. After Trump on Tuesday canceled a meeting planned with Schumer and the minority head of the Hakeem Jeffries room, Dn.y., the two Democrats blamed the president for the imminent closure.

However, the requested price of democrats for a short -term financing extension is too high for Republicans.

They want permanent extensions to subsidies to the affordable care law, a complete repeal of the health care title of “Big and Beautiful Bill”, which includes the rural hospital of $ 50 billion, and a confrontation of the financing canceled for NPR and PBS.

“Again, Donald Trump showed the American people that he was not up to the task,” said Schumer. “It is a very simple work: sitting and negotiating with Democratic leaders and coming to an agreement, but he does not get used to it. He fled even before the negotiations begin.”
