A hiker in Japan was found dead Friday after a brown bear would have attacked and dragged him into the bushes.
The man – who would be in their twenties – walked in front of his friend along a Mount Rausu path in Hokkaido, Japan, Thursday, when he was attacked by a brown bear, a local point of sale Asahi Shimbun reportedquoting the police.

The victim shouted the name of his friend, who after rushing to catch up, saw the man trying to fight the brown bear, who then dragged him into the bushes, according to Asahi Shimbun.

The friend, who left the scene and was unscathed, then called the police to report the attack, the Asahi Shimbun reported.

After the incident, the three trails leading to Mont Rausu were closed. The hikers who were already on the mountain were looking for a shelter at the Okhotsk Bservatory, according to the media.

At the end of the day on Thursday, more than 71 people were transported by plane from the region by a helicopter. That evening, the officials issued a brown bear warning near the Mount Rausu trails, the Asahi Shimbun reported.

Friday morning, police launched a search and found several articles, including a blood stained shirt, a wallet, a hat and a watch – tens of meters from the path. Blood stains have also been identified on neighboring trees and on the ground, according to Asahi Shimbun.
