The governor of Virginie Youngkin says that Jay Jones’ texts are “beyond disqualification”

“This violent and disgusting rhetoric targeting an elected official and his children are beyond disqualification,” wrote Youngkin in a post on Saturday. “Jay Jones said that” Gilbert obtains two bullets in the head “and then hoped that his children would die. Reread these words.”
“There is no” God, I’m sorry “here. Jones does not have morality or character to abandon this race, and his racing comrades, Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and each democrat elected in Virginia do not have the courage to call him to move away from this campaign in disgrace,” he added.

A spokesperson for Coyner’s campaign confirmed the veracity of the texts reported for the first time by National Review, saying that they were “disturbing and disqualifying for anyone who wants to ask for a public service”.
“Jay Jones wished the violence on the children of a colleague and joked about the shooting of Todd Gilbert. It is disgusting and improper of any civil servant,” said the spokesman.
Jones appears against the outgoing Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, a republican.
The general republican general association (RAGA) also called Jones to “withdraw immediately” from the race following “its odious text messages”.

“There is no room for political violence, especially joking about this – in particular an elected official. Jay Jones should abandon the prosecutor’s race. His comments are not acceptable from someone who wants to represent the police,” said Raga president Kris Kobach.
In a declaration Exit to the media, Jones said: “I take full responsibility for my actions and I want to apologize to the Gilbert speaker and his family.”

“The Virginians deserve honest leaders who admit when they are wrong and arise at their mistakes. It was a serious mistake, and I will work every day to prove to the inhabitants of Virginia that I will fight for them as a prosecutor general,” he added.
