California governor Gavin Newsom said on Tuesday evening at a campaign event that he had remained close to Charlie Kirk after he appeared as the first guest on his podcast, “it’s Gavin Newsom”, in January.

“He was quite graceful, not only to say, yes, he flew to do so in person,” Newsom told progressive political commentator Bryan Tyler Cohen.

“And I passed not only the Hour Plus, in a very civil conversation with Charlie, I spent time with him afterwards, and we stayed in touch, including my team, remained in contact fairly regularly,” said the liberal governor.

Kirk and Newsom clashed against transgender athletes in female sports on the podcast, but Newsom – Breaking with its progressive base – has stored on the side of Kirk, the calling “a problem of equity” and “deeply unfair”. He also noted that his own children were watching Kirk’s videos.

“Obviously, we have profound differences in opinion,” said Newsom on Tuesday. “Obviously, he was very offended by positions that are dear to me, and I, in my turn, very offended by things he said in positions he occupied. But the fact is that we had the opportunity to engage.”

“Everything is at stake,” continued the governor. “It is a deep and consecutive moment in American history. We can lose this Republic if we do not assert ourselves. And we are standing right now and take care of this Republic and our democracy.”

Newsom has supervised its “FAFO 50” (F — Around and to discover) the measure of redistribution in the context of a wider battle against what it called a “red code” threat to American democracy. Joined by politicians, celebrities and democratic influencers, Newsom said that President Donald Trump and his allies undermine universities institutions at the Ministry of Justice and push to redefine dissent as “hate speech”.

Newsom urged democrats to handle their “moral authority” with “muscles” to counter republican redistribution efforts.
