Minnesota governor Tim Walz said on Friday that it was time to “take serious measures” in state legislature after a deadly shooting in a Catholic school in Minneapolis this week.
“It is time to take serious measures in the State Capitol to fight against armed violence,” wrote the Democrat and former vice-presidential candidate in 2024 in a post.
Walz is considering a special firearm session next month at the State Capitol and called on legislators after a deadly shooting at the Catholic Church Annunciation on Wednesday, according to Fox 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul.
An 8 -year -old boy, Fletcher Merkel, and a 10 -year -old girl, Harper Moyski, were killed during the school return to school. Eighteen others were injured, including 15 children.

The mother of the shooter, Mary Grace Westman, previously refused to speak to the police and kept a lawyer, reported Fox News.
The deputy chief of the assistant police of Minneapolis, Christopher Gaiter, said on Friday at a press conference with the cooperation of the Criminal Apprehension Office of the Minnesota Ministry of Security, there was a “conversation” with Westman “and I am not free to go further”.
When asked what changes the city has brought from the riots of George Floyd 2020 to respond to incidents, mayor Jacob Frey said: “What is more than specific changes are practice, and we practice a lot. We have practiced coordination through our incident management system.
“We have practiced the communication channels and how it would work in times of crisis. We practiced by ensuring that people understood exactly what their responsibility was, whatever the events that could happen. And that can look like a small thing. This is not the case.”

He said that “the information flow was considerably improved”, adding that the governor had immediately offered help after the shooting.

Gaiters said the Minneapolis police service was making additional patrols in all schools and religious institutions.
