The Fraida Kahlo Museum opens in Mexico City in September

A new museum dedicated to the life and art of Fraida Kahlo will open in the historic Cuyukan region of Mexico City in September.

The museum will be appointed in Casa Roja, a special headquarters that bought Kahlu’s parents and pass through the family throughout generations; It has turned into an artistic institution by the Rocwell Group, a New York architecture company. The house was talented by the granddaughter of the artist Mara Romeo Cahlo, who said the Kahlo family was the closest relative of the artist.

“This is a long dream from our family,” said Mara Romeo Cahlo in a statement. “Farida’s heritage belongs to the world, but it begins here – on this earth, in these homes, and in the culture you formed. Museo Casa Kahlo will allow us to tell new stories, share family secrets, host new voices, and build a future that honors its soul.”

The space stands next to another central area of ​​Central’s legacy: Kaza Azoul, the house where Ferida Kahlo was born, grew up, and lived with her husband, the painter Diego Rivera, as well as the site where she died.

Casa Azul was built by her father Guillermo and will remain part of the museum, which is run by Fideicomiso de Los Museos Diego Rivera Y Frida Kahlo Trust and run by the central bank of Mexico. It features a set of artwork written by Kahlo, Rivera and other artists, as well as the Mexican folk art of the couple, Latin antiques, photographs, souvenirs, and personal opening.

On the contrary, Casa Roja will explore the beginnings of Kahlo, highlight the influential cultural figures that I have known and stable. The museum will also include exhibitions and rolling shows for contemporary art, with a focus on Mexican artists, Latin America and women.

Adán García Fajardo has been recently set to be the museum director. He is currently the academic director of the Memory and Tolerance Museum in Mexico City.

The museum’s funding has become possible by the newly -profit Fundación Kahlo, with which the Kahlo family began to preserve the artist’s legacy and continue its efforts by promoting Mexican art, extra and Latin America. The New York -based Foundation will support the headquarters of the museum and related public initiatives, including the Kahlo ART award for the award every two years and a grant program. Fundación Kahlo will head a veteran in public relations Rick Miramonts.
