The former republican chief of New York Municipal Council explained how Zohran Mamdani could lose the race for the mayor, and that the job candidate “cannot do much of what he promises” even if he was elected.

Joe Borelli, who served more than nine years as a city councilor, sat with Fox News Digital to discuss the race classification as a seated mayor Eric AdamsThe former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa all linger on the ground against Mamdani and his openly socialist program.

“The race is not even close,” Borelli told Fox. “We will see the first set of surveys after the Labor Day, around September 10, September 11, and this is when you really see the race take shape.

“It is then that I think there will be pressure for perhaps one or two of the candidates to withdraw and support the others,” added Borelli.

Cuomo, who lost in primary democratic defeat in upheaval against Mamdani in June, would have been “counted” President Trump to push GOP voters in New York to support the former governor.

Cuomo campaign refused rumors to Fox News Digital Earlier this week.

Borelli noted that President Donald Trump To convince Sliwa and Adams to abandon the race could be beneficial for Cuomo, but that an official approval can do more harm than good.

“Trump could help Cuomo helping the other two non-madani candidates withdraw from the race, and it would be a hard-hitting,” Borelli told Fox. “Unfortunately, however, even as Trump’s supporter, I should admit that the president is not particularly popular among the New York voting block.”

Mamdani goes around the question of “communism”, says that his campaign concerns the “distribution of wealth”

As for the Mamdani agenda, the socialist made high campaign promises, saying that he wanted New York to provide free childcare services, free bus transport, grocery stores belonging to the city and freezing rent prices.

The decade of Borelli spent on the municipal council makes it believe that many of these promises are simply not possible.

“Mamdani cannot do much of what he unilaterally promises,” Borelli told Fox. “The MTA is not working in the dark right now, it is working considerably in the red.

“(MTA) always needs more money, it would therefore not be clear how it could sell the entire MTA board on a program to make buses free while it would cost more than one, two, perhaps three billion dollars.”

As for the Mamdani plan to open a grocery store managed by the city in each of the five arrondissements of New York, seated Governor of New York Kathy Hochul Pushed back to the idea during an event in the Hamptons this weekend.

“I prefer free enterprise,” said Hochul, who does not present himself for the mayor, to the crowd by referring to Mamdani’s vision for grocery stores in the city.

While the remaining candidates continue to fight while Mamdani leads the pack, the scene is ready for an eventful mayor in November.

Fox News Digital contacted Zohran Mamdani’s campaign but did not receive an answer.
