The jurors of the Ryan Routh federal trial – accused of having tried to assassinate President Donald Trump in his West Palm Beach golf club in 2024 – heard new evidence on Tuesday from the FBI Digital and DNA specialists, including alleged text messages exploding the results of Trump and the laboratory linking Routh’s DNA to key elements.

The list of Roth witnesses has also shrunk. Before the jurors entered, Routh, who represented himself in the trial, said in court: “As far as I am concerned, we will exclude my son”, confirming that he will not call Oran Routh, who is under the separate federal guard, as a witness. Judge Aileen Cannon noted that he could not review this decision later.

Judge Cannon cut prosecutors and Routh several times on Tuesday, at some point, asking: “How long will it take?” She also reminded Roth to stop interrupting. When he complained: “I have no hot water and I can’t shower … I don’t take a shower for a month,” said Cannon had “appropriate administrative procedures … Not in the spot, as you got used to”.

The FBI Digital Forensic Examination, Jerry Llanes, said on Tuesday for American prosecutors that a Samsung phone had recovered from the Nissan Xterra Black from Routh had WhatsApp messages which included on February 3, 2024, exchange with registered contact as “Chinese hero to fight”.

“I know it’s very different … I think Kennedy was killed by a hill … certainly not an easy task. If I can help, let me know what to do,” Roth wrote.

In another channel with someone listed like “Ben”, Routh sent a text: “What do you think of Trump?”

Ben replied: “Not a fan.”

“I hate him,” said Roth. “Shan is no longer elected.”

And in a WhatsApp wire with “Captain Talk Recruiting”, Routh said: “I think Trump will be a big problem for Ukraine … It is sure, what an idiot. He has to leave. He canceled the (Complete Complete Action Plan) for Iran. What an idiot. I hate him.”

On the other hand, Llanes has described images showing Miami flight research in Mexico and Bogotá, Colombia, and a photo that “seems to be a rifle attached to a tree”.

The FBI DNA examiner Kara Gregor also testified that Routh’s DNA was strongly linked to the rifle handle, a reddish brown bag, a zip tie, a elastic cord and a glove. On the rifle, she said that DNA evidence was “250 centillions more likely if the contributors were Roth and two unknown individuals if the contributors were three unknown individuals”.

Roth hated it in a counter-examination with sarcasm: “Have you tested a Colt .45 case? A golf t-shirt? A blue flashlight? And a sunny D?”

Gregor replied that many of these elements were not tested, or that she did not remember.

The trial, moving quickly due to Roth’s rapid cross-examination, continues on Wednesday with more expected forensic experts. American prosecutors are expected to conclude their case by Friday and Routh will bring his witnesses to the stand next week.
