The first group of teachers in the country defended the teaching of the faculty’s word after the murder of the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), Charlie Kirk, but ceased to condemn his murder.
The American Association of University Professors (AAUP), founded in 1915, called for universities leaders to avoid “political pressure” to dismiss the members of the faculty on the comments made on conservative power following his death.
“The AAUP notes with a large alarm the eruption of recent administrative actions to discipline teachers, staff and student speech following the murder of Charlie Kirk,” the AAUP wrote in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. “We write to remind the leaders of colleges and universities of their fundamental duty to protect academic freedom and absolute necessity to ensure that the freedom to discuss subjects of public importation without constraint is not limited under political pressure.”
