Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dn.y., is wide from her left during her vote on an amendment to block American funding from Iron Dome of Israel.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) criticize the progressive brandard to vote against an amendment by the representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-GA., To block $ 500 million in the annual Congress Defense Expenditure Bill which aimed to finance the defense systems of Israeli missiles.

“An embargo on arms means keeping all arms out of the hands of a genocidal soldier, without exception. This is why we oppose the representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (s) vote against an amendment which would have blocked $ 500 million in funding for the Iron Dome program of the Iron Dome of the Israeli army,” said the DSA on weekends.

The DSA noted that it had voted against the defense financing bill itself, “thus voting against the financing of the imperialist industrial military complex and the Israeli genocide”.

The group, however, added “we were deeply disappointed by its clarification declaration on its position on the Iron Dome.”

“With other interceptor systems funded by the United States, Iron Dome has embarrassing Israel to invade or bomb no less than five different countries in the past two years,” said the DSA.

“The fact that the representative Ocasio-Cortez recognizes that Israel realizes this genocide makes support for military aid all the more disappointing and incongruous. We urge the representative to continue to vote against Iron Dome, whether this is part of a more important defense expenditure bill or as an autonomous bill.”

The DSA congratulated the representatives Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.; Ilhan Omar, d-minn.; Summer Lee, d-pa., Et al Green, d-texas, to vote against the amendment.

She posted on X after the vote, “Marjorie Taylor Greene’s amendment does nothing to cut offensive help in Israel or end the American ammunition flow used in Gaza. Of course, I voted against.”

“What he does is cut the defensive capacities of the iron dome while allowing the real bombs killing the Palestinians to continue. I have long declared that I do not think that the addition of the number of deaths of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end,” she said.

“It is a simple and clear difference in opinion that has long been established. I remain focused on reducing the flow of American ammunition which are used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza.”

The confrontation illustrates how Israel continues to lead an ideological corner within the Democratic Party.

This is not the first time that Ocasio-Cortez has graduated from the progressive base so as not to adopt a sufficiently critical position on Israel.

In 2021, the New York Democrat cried on the floor of the House after having voted “present” on the financing of the Iron Dome defense system of Israel.

“Yes, I cried,” she wrote in an open letter to voters after the incident. “I cried the total lack of care for human beings who are affected by these decisions. I cried in an institution choosing a path of maximum volatility and minimum consideration for its own political convenience.”

The global bill adopted last week provides $ 832 billion in defense funding for the year 2026.

This is distinct from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), another annual bill which establishes the defense and the national security policy each exercise – essentially detailing how these funds will be spent.
