Watermelon for weight loss is a new trend that takes off on Tiktok.

On Tiktok, several creators have documented their experiences with this technique, marking several weight loss books at the end of their “fast”.

Although watermelon is ideal for hydration and can be a healthy snack option, some warn that limitation of the body with low calorie fruit may present risks.

Dr. Mark Hyman, doctor, co-founder and chief-based doctor in Texas, commented this trend in an interview with Fox News Digital.

“The watermelon regime is the last of a long line of fast-fashionable fixed fixed-and although watermelon is a delicious and moisturizing fruit, transforming it into a centerpiece of a restrictive diet is not only unbearable, but it can really turn against your health,” he warned.

While watermelon can be an excellent addition to a diversified and nutrient -rich diet, only eat this fruit for days at the same time can “become a problem”, because it lacks balanced and necessary nutrients, according to the doctor.

Popular “ fibermaxxing diet is not correct for everyone, says nutritionist

“There is no unique diet or advice, especially, especially when motivated by social media algorithms instead of real science,” said Hyman.

“Watermelon is mainly water and sugar, which means that you lack essential nutrients such as proteins, healthy fats and the fibers your body needs to work,” he continued. “This can cause temporary weight loss, but it is not a fat loss – it’s water and muscle.”

The objective of losing weight should not concern a “rapid drop on the scale,” said Hyman, but the emphasis on changes in lifestyle for a longer and healthier life.

As the human body is designed to detoxify itself alone, Hyman noted that eating “real food” will offer the right type of support for weight loss and general well-being.

“Whole vegetables, clean proteins, healthy fats and a lot of fiber,” he listed. “Add quality sleep, stress management and movement, and you have a lasting lifetime health plan, not just short -term weight loss based on fashionable Internet modes.”

Hyman added that social media is a “powerful tool”, but can be a “double -edged sword” in health.

“What is popular online is not always what suits your body,” he said. “Health is personal and your body is not an experience. I encourage people to be curious, but also cautious.”

The dietitian nutritionist based in Los Angeles, Ilana Muhlstein, noted in an interview with Fox News Digital that water, L-Citrulline and Putassium found in watermelon could help detoxify the body.

“Only one cup of dice watermelon contains about half a cup of water,” she said. “From what I saw on Tiktok, people who make” watermelon detoxification “often consume 12 to 14 cups per day or more, which means that they take the equivalent of six to seven cups of just fruit of the fruit alone.

“This can cause temporary weight loss, but it is not a fat loss – it’s water and muscle.”

This amount of hydration can help stimulate stool and urination, the “natural detoxes” of the body.

L-Citrulin, an amino acid found in bark and watermelon flesh, ultimately converts to nitric oxide production, which, according to Muhlstein, is essential for blood flow, circulation and lymphatic drainage.

“This is why athletes sometimes like to consume watermelon to help stimulate muscle recovery, and why watermelon can help reduce pockets and bloating,” she added.

Watermelon is also rich in potassium, which helps to eliminate excess sodium through urine and reduce water retention, the expert said.

For a person who comes out of a salt salt salt diet and transformed snacks, the watermelon diet could trigger a “strong decline”.

“However, they must pay attention to their sodium levels do not drop too low,” warned Muhlstein. She recommends adding a pinch of good mineral salt to the watermelon, “especially if they feel weak, tired or dizzy.”

Despite the detoxifying effects of the fruit, Muhlstein applies that a strict watermelon diet is not recommended.

Eating only watermelon can cause muscle loss within 24 hours to 72 hours, as the fruit contains “almost no protein”.

“Your body will eventually remove essential amino acids from your muscle tissue to support your organs and organ systems,” she said.

“The watermelon is very high in potassium but very low in sodium, which can cause an electrolytic imbalance and potential headaches and dizziness.”

As watermelon is mainly sugar and water, this can cause blood sugar and collisions, a negative impact on mood, concentration and sleep.

The nutritionist rather recommends eating watermelon as part of a balanced diet, which can include a cup or two of the fruits with a healthy meal.
